Cielle barely had time to brace herself before the girl wrapped her arms around her in a crushing hug. She stumbled back slightly, catching herself just before they both toppled over.
“You came back!” the girl squealed, her voice filled with unfiltered joy.
Cielle let out a small laugh, instinctively hugging her back. “Of course I did,” she said, glancing over at the burly man behind the counter, who watched the scene with a mixture of amusement and exasperation.
“You have no idea how much she’s been talking about you,” he said, crossing his arms. “I think she thought you disappeared forever.”
The girl pulled back just enough to look up at Cielle, her eyes shining. “You saved me that day,” she said earnestly. “I never got to say thank you.”
