An Alpha for The Throne

Not wanting to draw any more attention, I returned to the dining hall where my mother and father sat.

Mother was visibly worried. Father on the other hand was indifferent. He never seemed to care about me.

As the heir to the throne, he sat on Father’s right hand while mother sat on the left. Father was at the head of the table.

“Good morning, father” I greeted and turned to Mother. “Good morning, Mother” I greeted.

Father simply waved at me as expected. Mother on the other hand smiled as she beckoned on me to embrace her and with a smile on my face, I did.

“How are you, brother?” Orion questioned. I was suddenly disgusted by his actions. I faked a smile and nodded as we settled to enjoy our meal quietly. There was so much tension in the air yet no one was saying anything.

“Dalia, make sure everything is in place. I do not want any complaints whatsoever by anyone. Make sure everything is set as my son would be made the Alpha today” Father suddenly spoke. Orion smiled as soon as he heard father utter those words.

Mother on the other hand looked worried but she remained quiet and nodded. I could tell she was not comfortable.

A couple of minutes after, father and Orion stood up and walked away. I was hurt. I was angry and bitter.

Why was Father hell bent on making Orion being the Alpha rather than making someone who could lead the people be the Alpha? Of course, it was quite dangerous.

“Mother” I held her hand almost immediately as I looked around to be sure no one was watching. “I want to be the Alpha. I want to rule this pack” I informed Mother, desperation in her eyes. “You know your son is not capable to rule this pack. He would only embezzle the funds. Last night, when he was supposed to check the pack, he was with ladies.

Ever since Father had allocated a chore to me seven years ago, I have never for once missed checking the pack but Orion, how many appointed tasks has he kept? Father placed him in charge of the horses and stables yet he has no idea about the number of horses that we have.

Father placed him in charge of the gates to monitor everything that comes and goes in yet he had no idea a spy came into our pack last night and…”

“A spy?” Mother questioned. Of course, a spy was something mother and father never wanted to hear or see. They were way too dangerous.

“Yes, mother but I have that under control” I answered and she let out a sigh. “I know I have always wanted Orion to be the Alpha because he is the first child and my older brother but I am also concerned about the welfare of this pack. I want to rule this people and give them the better life" I tried to convince mother.

She still seemed to be skeptical so I leaned back and let out a sigh. “If I didn’t know better, I would think you and my father aren’t my parents. What is so special about him that you intend to make him the Alpha?”

“Alright then. I will see your father and talk to him. I am not assuring you but I will try my best”. Mother answered and I nodded.

Everything was in place and different Alpha’s from different places had began to gather, congratulating father and Orion.

I had still not seen mother since afternoon and I didn’t know my fate. Just then, mother approached me.

I arched my brows to hear what she had to say.

“I am sorry, child. I tried to convince him even till his moment but he seemed obstinate” Mother answered and I smiled. I wasn’t so disappointed after all. I expected it though.

Sooner than expected, the party began and everyone began to dance and felicitate. I on the other hand had to fake a smile.

Just then, I sighted the little, spoilt lady who had ruined my plans that morning. She looked timid and scared but most important, very beautiful. A grin spread on my face. Orion…. I knew what would cross his mind the moment he sees her.

Marissa had a smile, a wry smile on her face as she held a glass of wine in her hands and proceeded to Orion .

He was beginning to get drunk ad he sat with six other Alphas, his friends. They all looked very happy and excited.

Marissa placed down the cup right in front of brother and just like I expected, brother had his gaze on her and then could not resist the temptation as he slowly slide his hands up her arm. The other Alphas had begun to murmur as well. A beauty indeed.

Marissa flinched as she tried to walk away but brother's eyes was filled with lust for her.

“Wait!” I requested as brother was about to place the drink to his mouth.

He and his friends as well as everyone turned to look at me, a little bit shocked at what was going on. Father and mother were shocked as well.

I walked hurriedly to brother and held Marissa’s neck, releasing a gasp from her and everyone else.

“What are you doing? How dare you disturb my fun?” He questioned and stood up.

“Save your strength brother” I spoke to brother. Quickly, I picked up his drink and poured it to my sword and it melted almost immediately, releasing a gasp from everyone.

“Imagine what would have happened if this had entered you. You cannot even protect yourself. How can you protect our people?” I scoffed. Orion's eyes widened in shock. Perhaps, he had not expected it.

“And as for you” I turned to look at Marissa. “You came here as a spy…. Yet I gave you the opportunity to amend your ways…” I chuckled and now, you want to kill the Alpha?” I questioned.

Everywhere suddenly went quiet as s everyone stared at me.

“You all can see the treacherous act committed by this lady right here. There is no justification whatsoever for the two crimes she committed. She deserves death!” I yelled and everyone nodded in agreement.

Brother on the other hand was bewildered. This was my chance.

“Take the sword, brother” I handed him a sword “and take her life right here… right now”
