Lyla's Pov
Standing up on wobbly legs, I trudged over to the bathroom, running my hands through my now matted hair.
"What a way to start the morning," I muttered as I turned the light on and reached into the shower to turn it on full blast. Standing in front of the mirror, I took a moment to scrutinise my disheveled appearance.
My hair was an inky black color with natural dark blue highlights that weaved in and out of the tussles. It was a stark contrast against my ivory pale skin, which seemed to glow whiter in the sun. Looking up, I was met with bright gray eyes that sparkled in the light. When angered, they would turn almost black. When happy, they would change to white. This phenomenon has caused me issues in the past as I did my best to keep my identity of being a hybrid secret. From the outside, looking in everyone assumed I was a mere human. No one suspected I was born of Fae and Werewolf parents.
I lowered my view to see a petite hourglass body that was toned with muscle. A result of a lifetime of harsh training and not enough time to eat in my busy schedule. A flat stomach and a prominent gap between my thighs resulted in a lot of men fantasizing about me. Men wanted me and women wanted to be like me. Thus, I used it to my advantage. It was very easy to lure my targets into a false sense of security when I looked the way I did. I angled my body to look at my back, which had harsh scars that ran from between my shoulder blades down to my lower back.
At 27 years of age, my memories and experiences were on a more violent scale compared to most. It had been 4 years since I got out of Sandom and everything that I witnessed and experienced still haunted me. Even the most hardened of beings would struggle to get past what I saw.
During my time in Sandom I had to suppress my werewolf. This meant I got none of the perks; no fast healing, super strength or the accompanying voice to fight away the loneliness. My Fae side, on the other hand, had yet to fully present itself. I had the minor ability to shape shift smaller features of myself and I was slightly able to control the 5 elements.
As I stood staring into my eyes, I noticed dark smoke beginning to encompass my body. A hiss escaped my mouth as a shadowed hand appeared in the center of my chest unmoving. My hair began swaying without there being a breath of wind. I heard the distinct ancient melody of my Fae ancestors begin to chant.
"Tuatha Dé Danann...
Tuatha Dé Danann...
Tuatha Dé Danann...
You cannot run from your heritage forever, young one...
Come to us...
Come...
Come..."
I remained still, staring at the dark smoke, hypnotized by the shapes it made as it slithered across my skin. Listening to the chorus of voices that kept repeating the same words over and over until my brain was filled by nothing but those words.
"Lyla!" I heard a voice in a distant part of my brain.
"Come back to me, Lyla... Where did you go!?"
As if awoken by a bad dream, I became aware of my surroundings once again. The smoke was gone and I was still standing in front of the mirror.
"You scared me for a second, Lyla, I couldn't see you from your mind. Everything went black," my wolf Lyria exclaimed.
"What was that?" I asked.
"I'm not sure, but it sure as hell scared me. The last thing I saw was the black smoke, then poof everything went black," Lyria explained. I could feel her pacing around in the front of my mind as if waiting for an attack.
"Everything's okay now, let's just get ready for the meeting and think about it later," I heard a huff before feeling Lyria retreat to the back of my mind.
Turning around, I got into the shower and sighed, it was pure bliss. I felt each muscle begin to loosen as I went to work cleaning myself.
My mind wandered to King Lithias. He was the one hunting me and had been for over 6 full moons now. I knew exactly what he wanted but I was biding my time to develop my perfect entrance. Call me theatrical, but an entrance was everything. It would be what left a lasting impression on those pompous rich people of the castle.
Finishing off, I got out of the shower and went to work de-tangling my hair and drying it. Once I finished, I gave myself a little nod through the mirror. I never bothered much with make-up, as there wasn't much point. The dark tattoos around my face were enough. Lifting up a hand, I traced the triangle in the center of my forehead and followed the lines that descended around my eyes. Along each line, little lines would branch off, giving a leaf-like effect. Giving a final scrunch of my hair, I turned and left to go towards my wardrobe.
I ruffled through my panty drawer and pulled out a simple yet cute pair of white bra and underwear. Donning them, I moved to pick up high-waisted ripped jeans that hugged my figure tightly. I tucked in a white silk singlet. Looking at my shoes, I picked up my usual high healed combat boots that had white diamonds along the seams.
"Perfect," I exclaimed while twirling in front of the mirror.
"Sexy yet practical," I smirked before turning to the door.
"Time to face the beasts," I sighed.
