Chapter 5

DARIUS' POV: The memory of that night is still freshly painted on my mind. I could still remember her soft skin and silk touch. Her Auburn hair, hazel eyes and rosacea on her cheeks. Her luscious pink lips, soft bosom and... "Sir you wanted to see me? Dan said, cutting my thoughts short. Ever since that night, I have been so lost and wrapped up in my thoughts about that night with her. She occupied my mind in the most distracting way. "Yes I did, I asked you to run a background check on the lady I left with that night, I hope you have results?" I really hoped Dan had found something about her. I was really losing my mind over someone who probably doesn't remember me. Yes, that's it… She is pretending not to care. That's why she didn't bother to reach out to me. Well too bad for her, No one rejects DARIUS KEN. "Yes I did sir." Dan replied. He pulled out his iPad and started giving distinct information about her. "Celine Richard, a 25 year old neurosurgeon and orphan struggling to make ends meet,” “Won a scholarship and graduated with honours from Harvard, Summa c*m laude. Best graduating student from Med school.” “Only dated one man by the name James." I frowned when I heard that name. JAMES. Something about hearing another man's name, made my jaw clench. "And what does James do for a living ?" I couldn't help but ask. "Sir, James is Celine's ex boyfriend.” Dan replied. “According to my research, he broke up with her last week in search of greener pastures but actually traveled with his mistress to another country with the money he leeched off Celine. " He briefed, showing me images of James exiting shopping malls with an Asian girl. She wasn't even as beautiful and skilled as Celine. Well his loss is my gain. I thought, grinning widely. "Should I proceed sir?" I could see Dan's scrutinising gaze on me. He had never seen me, this worked up about anyone but Celine intrigued me. Something about her Aura shook me and sent shivers down my spine. The fact she didn't want me made me more curious and determined to have her. "How do we stop this so-called James from ever returning ?" James was a threat and all threats must be eliminated. He might realise Celine's worth someday and come running back like a lost puppy. Dan understood what I wanted and suggested with a sly smile, "According to my info he's currently in Asia, which makes him a migrant. I think his travel documents can be… you know… confiscated. " I quickly nodded in approval. "Very good Dan. Expect a raise." He smiled widely, “Thank you sir.” "I need to know where Miss Celine lives, works, her favourite of everything and who she hangs out with." I ordered, while quickly checking the time on my watch. There was no time to waste. "Cartwright Avenue. Room 45.” He informed “Okay. Include an impromptu visit in my schedule.” I ordered. “As for her work sir, she was recently fired for breach of ethics and misconduct.” Dan stated. Fine lines of confusion and curiosity quickly etched on my forehead. Who dared to take that which she loves away from her? "What happened?" I inquired, my fingers instinctively tapping on my mahogany desk. "She was fired for misconduct and anxiety during surgery, which caused her to make a mistake on the patient's craniotomy." He replied. That was no big deal, I could just pay off the patient and ask them to keep their mouth shut or on the bright side, she could work somewhere I can specially assign to her. "And who was the patient? " "Sir... it's… your mom, Mrs Doris." Stephan replied, slurring each word. I froze in place. She made a mistake on my mother. "You can leave. " I commanded, gesturing for him to go away. He nodded, bowed and briskly walked out the door. I paced around my office unsure of what to do. Right then my phone rang, I rushed instinctively and to my disappointment it wasn't her but Grandma. This wasn't good. Whenever Grandma Molly called it was always one harsh task, a command or an endless list of prospective brides I should court. "Hello grandma Molly. " I finally answered. "So you have been ignoring my calls? I've been calling you for days now! What's wrong with you? " Her voice thundered through the phone inquisitively. As the matriarch of the family, she never took no for an answer and everyone was accountable to her. "No ma. I have been busy with work. " I replied curtly to avoid a long banter and endless scolding from her. "Make sure to come home tomorrow for dinner. Don't make me come get you myself." She ordered, immediately disconnecting the line. I couldn't help but smash my phone against the wall. Then slowly slumped into my office chair, spinning round. "What are you doing to me Celine Richard?" I asked myself indistinctly. She looked angelic while asleep. I could still recall her pale skin that captured the vintage ethereal beauty that didn't belong in this generation. The telephone on my desk rang once more, it was a private line. "Hello, am I on to Mr Darius? " A soft voice echoed through the other end. "Yes I am... How may I help you? " I asked cautiously. "Your presence is needed at the hospital urgently. " She replied, and before I could respond, the line was disconnected.
