Emerald's POV.
I heard about Luna Cathy's death this morning.
I was on the phone with Bennie when she told me. I had already opened my locker to take my books out for class.
"What?" I shrieked.
I had to grip the book tightly, to prevent it from falling from my hands.
I couldn't believe what I heard.
Luna Cathy? Dead?
"As in, The Luna Cathy?" I asked again for confirmation.
"For the hundredth time, Emerald. Yes! The Luna Cathy. Alex's mom"
My breath got caught in my throat.
She was murdered in cold blood.
The killer must have gotten to her before anyone else could intervene.
I remembered Alex's words. I recalled how he was against the idea of the ball.
He predicted this would happen.
He was so invested in everyone's safety yet his was compromised. His mom was killed.
