⚖️ The Investigation
“Dr. Santos, you are under review for breaching the humanitarian neutrality code. You treated an active combatant without clearance.”
Tahimik si Lara.
“I acted on instinct,” sabi niya. “He was dying. I couldn’t let someone bleed to death in front of me.”
The officer replied coldly, “Instinct doesn’t justify protocol. You jeopardized the camp’s safety.”
Tumingin si Lara sa kanila, deretsong mata.
“I may have broken protocol. But I upheld my humanity.”
---
“Anong sabi nila?”
“Hearing tomorrow. Possible suspension.”
Napatigil si Ethan, halatang nagpipigil ng galit.
“They can’t do that! You saved lives—”
“Ethan,” putol ni Lara, “it’s okay. I knew this might happen.”

💥 The Argument
“Lara, you’re risking everything — your license, your life — for someone who destroyed families!”
“And you think I don’t know that?! I see those faces every night, Ethan!
But if I stop caring… if I start choosing who deserves to live — then I lose the very reason I became a doctor!”
Tahimik si Ethan, nanginginig ang panga.
“I’m just scared to lose you again,” mahina niyang sabi.
“Every time you choose duty over safety, I feel like you’re walking back into war.”
“Maybe because that’s who I am — someone who fights for life.
But you…” ngumiti siya, kahit may luha, “you’re the reason I survive it.”

💌 The Decision
“If you’re going to judge her for saving someone, then judge me too. Because I protected her while she did it.
If compassion is a crime, then I’m guilty too.”
Tahimik ang lahat.
Ang mga opisyal ay nagkatinginan.
Sa huli, nagsalita ang pinuno ng board.
“Dr. Santos… you are hereby relieved from duty pending reassignment. You will not be penalized — but you will be relocated to civilian relief work.”
She wasn’t punished — but they were about to be separated again.

🌅 Before the Departure
“Looks like we’re back where we started,” sabi ni Lara, may pilit na ngiti.
Ethan held her close.
“No… this time, we’re not saying goodbye. We’re just walking different paths that lead to the same place.”
“Home?” tanong ni Lara.
“Always.”
---
Hinaplos niya ang pisngi ni Lara.
“You once told me peace isn’t about where we are — it’s who we’re with.
So wherever you go… I’ll find you again.”
Ngumiti siya, sabay bulong:
“Promise me one thing, soldier.”
“Anything.”
“Don’t stop believing in what’s good — even when the world forgets.”
“I won’t,” sagot ni Ethan, sabay halik sa noo niya.
“Because I found it — right here.”
