Meredith Galena

I am Meredith Galena. I am the daughter of my mother and father, Lisa and Damien GalenaI also have a twin brother, Damon Galena. We are an aristocratic family among multiple other families, above us were the ruling House of Doren, the rulers of the Stepan Empire. When I was young, I always attended events hosted by nobles even when I was told I didn't have to. I only attended because I knew he would be there. I took every chance that I could take to talk to him, he was the only one that I felt comfortable with after all, he saw me as a friend, I saw him as one too. Eventually, it would develop to where I would occasionally visit the palace to play with him, this went on for years. And then.. "Meredith." My dad kneeled down in front of me and places his hand on my shoulders. "Yes father?" I replied. "This might take time for you to understand and accept, but starting today, you'll be officially engaged to him." He pointed to the boy I mentioned, everyone was silent. I was silent, but then I spoke up. "Does that mean... I will marry him in the future?" I asked. "You're correct." My dad replied. Before I knew it, I found myself with sparkles in my eyes, I found myself with a big smile. I found myself running to him and hugging him. I was so happy, I was so happy because that would mean he will be with me and play with me forever! We won't ever part no matter what if that was the case! "Do you understand what that means!? You'll get to play with me forever!!" I told him, he hugged me back but shared no reply. He was just like that since before when he's given big news, I could tell he was smiling too because he shared the same thought. However, the joy I felt that time could never last forever. 1 year after we found out we'd be engaged, at age 9, I was sent to the Abresian Hegemony, a country in the large island of Ionus-Abresia in the north west. I attended a magic school located in the Abresia Mountains, the largest and longest mountain range in the island, it was practically disconnected from the outside world. When I found out about it, I was hesitant, because that meant I wouldn't see my now fiancé for 3 years! But I had no choice, so I left. But just months later, it happened. The coup d'état happened, everyone in the Doren family and their workers were killed in the palace in an event called the Grand Swarm. However, I didn't know that until I finished studying in that school 3 years later. When I returned, I wondered why the flags were different, why were the flags around the palace different? Did the Dorens change their flag? That was when I heard from my father about what happened 3 years ago. "The Dorens were killed in the palace. I'm sorry Meredith, but your fiancé is dead." My father told me with a tone of regret. Was this really the end..? For 3 years being away from him, I always thought about him, I was thinking what to do with him when I return. How should we spend time? Should we take a stroll around the capital? Should we join the academy and become the strongest out there? I couldn't believe it. There's just no way I could believe it. I started blurting out things on my dad afterwards. "No. You're lying." "There's no way that's true, father." "Meredith-" "I refuse to believe that he's dead." "I've been with him for years, I know my fiancé better than you and anybody here.. He just can't die that easily!" "Meredith, it was practically the whole upper class against the Dorens! They stood no chance especially with their ill father." "..." "Our losses were building up every day from the war with the Kingdom of Atlas and the Canarian Kingdom! The people were mad, so the nobles took advantage of the situation and gathered the support of the people to launch a coup d'état." We were both silent for a while, I was trying to process everything that happened. Am I in a nightmare? "That won't change my mind. My fiancé is alive, I can feel it." "Meredith, I know it's hard to accept, so please sit down and take a deep breath first." I looked down, then, I asked one question to my father. "Father, which house led the coup?" "Trysta. The House of Trysta." That's all I needed to know. I walked away from his room and went to my room. All sorts of emotions were running through me for a moment. However, I sorted all of it out. If nobody could believe my fiancé is alive, then I'll be the only one who believes he's alive. The world can mock me if they want, even if they try anything, there's absolutely no way they will change my mind. The next day, I went to my father's room with a paper in my hand, I placed it in the table. "Meredith? What is this?" He asked. "Father, allow me to enroll in Stepan Capital Academy." I stared straight at his eyes, in his eyes, he saw my eyes that have made a resolve, one that won't ever be broken, he just didn't know what it was about, but I knew what it was about. "..Alright then, we'll enroll you." He knew that he didn't have to ask why anymore, because he saw it in my eyes. The first day of the school year arrived, I was determined to make this work, nothing can stop me now. As I tried finding my class, a commotion started in the hallway, a lot of students were gathered around. Eventually, they made way, and I saw the person who I just wanted to see. It's the Princess, Noelle Trysta. As she passed by, our eyes locked onto each other for a brief moment, there was a dense atmosphere for the time we locked eyes. As I looked away after she passed by, I smirked. Watch me, Noelle Trysta. I'll work to topple your family's name in this academy just like how you did to the Dorens in this country. I must. I absolutely must. For him, my fiancé who could just be there roaming around. My fiancé who is definitely working his hardest to survive in an environment he's not a specialist of. ... The door opens, a butler enters the giant room where who he serves reside, sipping a cup of tea. The butler walks to the table and takes out a letter from his pocket. "My Lady, I have news that will surely excite you," he leaves the letter in the table, "please take your time reading it." The butler excuses himself and leaves, she opens the letter and reads its content. By the time she finished reading it, tears roll down her cheeks, a smile creeps across her face. Finally, she has received news of what she had been waiting for. Finally, some weight has been lifted off of her. However, as soon as it has been lifted off, it returns as she thinks of what the news from the letter truly means outside of her personal matters. Alright, I have to return to the academy. The moment I've been waiting for has finally arrived. Her smile fades away, she wipes the tears off her cheeks, she stands up and walks away.
