“So Lord Buddha said that there was a need for an army in certain situations and that this was permissible where the King himself was righteous and where he used that army in a righteous way. If he ordered that army to invade a neighbouring land out of greed or a desire for more power, then the righteousness of the King and the army were negated. But if the army was only used by the King to protect his people and to preserve law and order within the Kingdom in a righteous way, then Lord Buddha saw this as acceptable. You talk of making a journey too fast, and I agree with you that some of our progress does not seem to benefit our people. But Buddha saw our journey as taking several if not multiple lifetimes.
