Author's POV
"Oh, I wish they listened; they would have been here with us since he was the one who helped you kill that guard," Gabe disliked the fact that they were all worried about Alaric.
"Yes, he did, but he didn't help me get these keys. I had to kill for everyone standing here, and I'm so thrilled about it, so don't judge me; I'm doing this for everyone," he divulged as they all felt indebted to him.
"They don't know that Alaric and Ryan just saved themselves from my wrath. I wanted every rival of my pack to die in this plan; I wanted Alaric's head and Ryan's ribs splattered over the sands, trampled upon by horses." Gabe chuckled at his thoughts.
"You're right; you're the one to be addressed as the hero in all this. We're indebted to you, and we owe you that treaty you requested."
"Certainly, and trust me, if you don't pay up, we would have huge problems settling that, so think of what you want to do and don't make mistakes because I hate mistakes." He chuckled, staring at everyone; no one reacted to his words. They knew that causing Gabe to be pissed might lead to him chasing them back or sabotaging the plan, so they all kept mute.
"We need to keep moving; we don't have time. I hope no one knows where we are." The last Alpha in the line couldn't hold his breath, knowing that his height was restrained in the tunnel, and it was only a matter of time before he got to his knees and started crawling.
"I doubt that; I did a lot of precise calculations before doing this, so don't think for a second that I don't know what I'm doing because I do. We're heading south since there are both paths around here." Gabe spoke as he continued walking. They got into a hole; they were right under the castle, heading straight to the forest through the dark tunnel. They were lucky that night vision was a character trait for their kind to use at night.
"You never spoke about having a junction like this, Gabe. Do you know what you're doing?" At this point, Gabe knew that everyone had their thoughts winding up about the junction that had two parts.
"I can't split the team; that would leave me with little or no chance to achieve my aims. I have to lead this pack, and some of these men are certainly going to die, so I can't split the team." Gabe heaved a deep sigh.
"I want you all not to say a word and let me reconsider the shape of the map in my head." Gabe acted, moving his hands in a circle, making everyone think that he was trying to remind himself of the right path.
"Did you have a map? If you had a map, why didn't you bring it along with you, knowing that we would need it at the very end? Do you even think before you make plans? An example of loopholes that can be deadly." He patted Gabe's shoulder, as he couldn't deny the fact that he was pissed.
"Yes, but it skipped my mind that I kept it in the hole I made in the wall with my claws in the cell." Gabe responded to his words rudely without hesitation, wearing a smirk on his face.
"Have you lost your mind?" He held a red ribbon in his hand, about to punch Gabe. The rest stopped him, but Gabe's confidence made everyone afraid of him. They wondered why he wouldn't be scared of the tallest and strongest among them.
"Of course, I know what I'm doing. Have you lost your mind?" He growled as he calmed his nerves to explain to his team members that they had come so far to think of going back to sitting behind those steel bars.
"Don't you dare think for a second that I'm afraid of you. I'm trying to do a favor for everyone. If I wanted, I would have escaped on my own. I knew, and I expected that we would come to this, but I forgot the map because we're all in a haste, so can you all tell this man here to stay clear of my path, or he might just lose his life in this charade?" He chuckled softly, staring at the man who was seated, staring into his locket. As Gabe drew closer, he stared at the picture of the Alpha's wife and his daughter.
"I have to get to my family; I want to know how they're faring. This is why I don't want to lose my life. My daughter loves me so much, and I don't know if she can survive living without me." He sobbed as he closed the locket, planting a soft kiss on it.
"Well, she would either die without seeing you or live without you for the rest of her days on this surface of this earth. I would make sure of that. To think that he had the guts to insult me," Gabe mumbled to himself as he rested his head on his shoulders, acting like he felt sober for the Alpha's urge to be reunited with his family.
"Are you alright?"
"Have you figured out the map in your head, Gabe?" he inquired as he stood with Gabe. Everyone stood respectfully, all waiting for Gabe's command.
"We're going to walk slow and steady because these tunnels are slippery. As you all can see, I don't know what they're doing or creating, but the waste is making the end tunnels slippery, so everyone should be careful so you don't fall into the furnace. At this time, the heat is reduced, so it's enough time for us to use the tunnel and get to the path leading to the forest. Once we get to the forest, everyone splits and heads back to their packs to regroup, and we return to take out our common enemy." Everyone felt impressed by Gabe's words; he won the trust of everyone, including the Alpha who was pissed with him.
"Now we're using the right route." He pointed to the right path as he remembered an odd word his father's friend used to say to him.
"When you come across crossroads, take your right; it always works for me." He said to himself as two men went in front of him. Knowing that this was the last time they were taking instructions, since it was a clear path, no one bothered to be careful, but everyone was on high alert for any minor danger, like a wandering guard or a snooper.
"I have to lead them in any direction. If we're going to head out to the clear path, I hope they get killed. When they're dead, I would be pleased; I would have many packs glued to mine, and certainly, I would be one of the strongest Alphas in this part of the world." His thoughts were interrupted as one of the Generals touched him.
"Don't stand there and keep us waiting! We don't have much time, and I'm certain that you know that. Is it left or right, Gabe?"
