The morning began like any other. Amara tied her apron, greeted her coworker, and began serving Customers with their usual warm smile. She had no idea that someone was already waiting for the perfect moment to destroy her At a corner table sat a man wearing a grey cap and dark sunglasses. He ordered only a bottle of water, but never touched it. Instead, his eyes followed Amara’s every move. It was the same man Sophia had hired the night before. “Remember,” Sophia had told him, “don’t make it obvious. I want everyone believe she’s guilty.” The man smiled. “I understand.” Around lunchtime, the cafe became crowded. Orders came in one after another. Customers laughed, waiters hurried between tables, and the manager struggled to keep everything organized. As Amara carried a tray of drinks to a family near the window, the manager struggled quietly stood up. He walked towards the staff area as though he was looking for the restroom. No one noticed him. Within a seconds, he slipped a thick envelope filled with cash into Amara’s locker Then he disappeared back into the dining area. A few minutes later, he rushed to the manager. “My wallet.”he shouted loudly. “My wallet is gone!” The cafe fell silent. Customers turned to watch. “ I had fifty thousand naira in that wallet,”The man continued angrily. “Someone here stole it.” The manager immediately locked the front door. “No one leaves until he find it.” Amara’s heart pounded. One by one, the staff members lockers were searched. When the manager reached Amara’s locker, She stood calmly.” “I have nothing to hide.” He opened it. An envelope dropped onto the floor. The manager picked it up. Inside was a large bundle of cash. The room went completely silent. Amara stared at the money in disbelief. I’ve never seen that before,” She whispered. The customers pointed at her. “No!” Amara cried. Someone put it there. i swear!” But no one believed her. The manager’s face was filled with disappointment. “Amara.. after all this years?” Tears streamed down her face. I didn’t steal anything. Just then, the cafe door opened. Ethan stepped inside. He immediately sensed something was wrong. “What happened?” The manager explained everything. Without saying a word, Ethan walked over to the locker. He looked at the envelope, then at Amara. Their eyes met. “I didn’t do it,”she whispered, her voice breaking. For a few seconds, the cafe was silent. Then Ethan spoke. “I believe her.” The room erupted with murmurs. The angry customer frowned. “You believe her? On what evidence?” Ethan looked directly at him. Because the woman standing in front of me would rather go hungry than steal from anyone.” The man laughed. “Feelings aren’t evidence.” “No,” Ethan replied calmly. “ But lies always leave traces.” He turned to manager. “Before anyone calls the police..check your cameras The fake customer’s confident smile disappeared. Hidden outside the cafe, Sophia watched everything from her car. She had expected Amara to be arrested within a minute. Instead... Ethan had just changed the game. Sophia clenched her fist. “Don’t tell me he can ruin this too.” Inside the cafe, the manager called the security office. “The cameras have been recording since all morning,” the guard said over the phone. “I’ll bring the footage now.” Everyone turned toward the office door. If the cameras had captured the truth... Someone’s life was about to change forever. End of chapter Nine
