Chapter Ten:The truth on camera

592 Words
Silence filled sunrise cafe. Every eye was fixed on the security guard as he entered the manager’s office carrying a laptop. The fake customer stood with his arms folded, trying to appear calm. Amara’s hands trembled. She had never felt so humiliated in her life. She looked Ethan. “What if they don’t believe me? She whispered. He gentle squeezed her hand. Truth doesn’t disappear just because someone tells a lie.” Those words gave her a little courage. The manager connected the laptop to the television mounted on the cafe wall. The recording began. The screen showed the busy cafe just before lunchtime. Customers came and went. Waiters hurried between tables. Then the video showed the man in the grey cap leaving his seat. “There!” Amara gasped. Everyone watched as he walked towards the staff area. The camera outside the lockers captured him looking around carefully. A second later, he opened Amara’s locker and slipped a brown envelope inside before quietly walking away. The cafe fell silent. “Oh my God...”one Customer whispered. The manager paused the video and stared at the screen in disbelief. The fake customer’s face turned pale. “You...the manager said angrily. Before anyone could stop him, the man pushed through the crowd and ran toward the exit. “Stop him!” Someone shouted. Ethan reacted instantly. He chased the man into the street. Cars honked as they ran across the busy road. The man knocked over a fruit seller’s cart, sending oranges rolling in every direction. Ethan refused to give up. Just as the man reached a waiting motorcycle, Ethan grabbed his jacket. The two man struggled until nearby police officers noticed the commotion and rushed over. Within seconds, the man was handcuffed. Back at the cafe, Amara sat quietly, tears rolling down her cheeks. The manager walked over to her. “Amara...” She looked up. “I owe you an apology.” He lowered his head. “I should have trusted the woman who’s worked honestly for this cafe for three years.” Amara smiled through her tears. “Thank you.” The other staff members gathered around her, each offering an apology. For the first time that day, she felt the heavy weight lifting from her heart. Later that evening, Ethan and Amara sat together in the small park where their friendship had begun. “I almost lost everything today,” Amara said softly. “You didn’t.” “It was close.” Ethan looked at her. “As long as I’m here, I won’t let anyone destroy your life.” Amara met his eyes. For the first time, she believed him. Without thinking, she leaned forward and hugged him. Ethan wrapped his arms around her gently. Neither of them noticed the photographer hiding behind a nearby tree. The camera flashed once. Click. The photographer smiled as he checked the picture. “Perfect.” He immediately sent the photo to Sophia. A few seconds later, Sophia’s phone vibrated. She opened the images. There they were. Ethan and Amara embracing beneath the evening sky. Sophia’s eyes filled with anger. “So..he’s chosen her.” She looked out of her office window and spoke quietly to herself. “If I can’t separate them with lies..” She closed the photo and smiled coldly. “..I’ll use the truth.” What truth was Sophia talking about? And now could it destroy Ethan and Amara before their Love had even begun? End of chapter 10✍🏻✍🏻✍🏻✍🏻
