The Hunters

"Welcome, Mr Shaw, Miss Jobs. Please have a seat." A man in a navy green business suit who sat at the edge of the table said rising to his feet in a way to acknowledge their presence. Nate Shaw took a seat in the one left empty after Elle had been seated across from his seat. They were immediately given a non disclosure form to sign which Nate carefully read before signing. When he was done, he casually looked around the room to observe it's other occupants. Apart from the man that was clearly in charge of the meeting, there was Johnson Wilson, an old acquaintance, they weren't exactly buddies but they were not enemies either. They knew each other from college highschool vaguely. Were even almost friends, just not the close type. But then, Nate went to college and Johnson joined the army and they kind of lost contact. So Nate was surprised to see the black guy hit him up on f*******: and ask to meet for a business deal. Of course, Nate had asked for some details and had been pleased by what he heard. You see, Nate is a thrill seeker. He currently owns a vlog and was an influencer on the side, his day job being a mechanic downtown. Nate loved fiddling with engines, motors and the like. It had been a passion since he was a teenager and still was. The only thing he loved better than tinkering with cars and motorcycles was doing thrilling stuff. The most illogical and scary stuff, except of course it was out of reasons, he would do them for hundreds of thousands of viewers all over the world. His vlog contents generally ranged from the harmless hardcore video games test runs to the less harmless night trips to supposedly haunted buildings, with a 24 hour hardcore jungle survival life stream somewhere in there. So hearing about the supposed project Deathmoore, a fully sponsored trip to the one of the most unexplored and most scary spots in the country was too good to turn down. He had agreed to come as long as he could get some pictures and short clips to compile for an ultimate, first ever Deathmoore exploration and reveal. Nate could already tell that the turnout would be massive, he could already see the new subscribers rolling in. And what was most exciting was him being able to experience all the action first hand. Knowing that he had encountered one of the world most dangerous species and had survived. That was the sweetest reward. And with his visual evidences, maybe they would even get some Guinness world record for that. Nate's eyes flitted from Johnson to the female secretary that he and Elle had met up front. As far as he knew, this was a meeting for the explorers. So he was kind of surprised to see the woman also here, and she was not writing anything or even holding a book in a way that might suggest that she was taking the minutes of the meeting. So Nate wondered, what exactly had qualified the secretary of the CEO to join a group of hunters on a danger feat? Beside the secretary was Elle Jobs whom he has met this morning but actually, not for the first time though. He had met her at a club once, he bought her a drink, she had flirted with him too, you know, the likes... And she had been a lot different dressed than this that he had not quickly recognized her. He only did when they got off the elevator and he noticed a tattoo of a scorpion peeking out from the bottom of her nape. The same tattoo that he had kissed and caressed that first night two years ago when they had s*x which he regretted the next morning. The s*x was great, mind blowing even, the lady was wicked with her mouth. The problem was that she robbed him blind the next morning and left before he woke up. She left a note that said that she would pay for the night lodging in the hotel but only because she thought he was cute and that the s*x was the best she had had in a long time. Yeah, she was pretty unforgettable. It was the most lasting first impression if there ever was one. Now that he recognized her, he actually did not know what to do. Confront her? Or simply ignore it? One thing was for sure though, he would be keeping a close eye on his stuff whenever she was around him. On his side of the table was another male dressed in a formal attire but in a way that suggested that he was dressed to impress. His clothes screamed 'expensive' and he could see Elle eyeing the guy with interest. However the other male was not looking in her direction at all, but was constantly stealing glances at him with wide eyes that suggested recognition. That actually puzzled him. Why? He was pretty sure that he had never met the dude in his life so his best guess was that the guy had seen him before, maybe his vlogs and he was probably a fan. The other alternative theory, he did not want to think about. On the other side of Mr not so subtly wealthy was a rather old man who did not seem to want to be here going by the grim look he was giving the man at the edge of the table. The other man though, met his gaze with an unwavering one, the kind parents give their children to ask them to behave. Since he was clearly unhappy to be involved in this project, Nate wondered why the man was there anyway. While he was looking around, the man in the Navy Suit introduced himself as Mr Fedrick Boyd and then went on to introduce everyone else in the meeting. He gave them a brief history of the Deathmoore clan as well as the legend surrounding their unexplored mountain and the forest around it. He went to say how it was open to public exploration but at the individual risk and how the forest had been a tourist site for thrill seekers earning the clan a lot of money. He then went on to say the various rumors surrounding the caves of the mountain as well as the various claims of Skinwalker sightings and how he didn't think they were very reliable since there was no proof. At this, the elderly man cleared his throat loudly and shifted uncomfortably in his seat. That earned him a glare from Mr Boyd Again, Nate could not help but wonder what was up with the two men. After the briefing, Mr Boyd went on to point out the job of everyone on the trip. Johnson was the muscle of the mission as well as a source of protection of the elderly men. Mr Cortez, aka the secretary, was there for the planning of the trip and it's comfort. Which was plausible, Nate thought, if they were going on a fvcking excursion! He would have bet that she was forced into the position based on her job description but she looked too excited for someone forced social he could not tell for sure. Elle was the brain behind the whole lifting artifacts things. She was supposedly well experienced in tight and sticky situations and should be able to get them out of such when they ultimately rain into one as well as having a eye for the important things to take and what not to. All which translated to *She is a really good thief* in Nate's brain. Darren Brooker was part of the funders of the project and was a pretty good target shooter which meant he was good with guns. Mr Yiska, the elderly man, was there to guide them since he had been to the mountain and knew the right path, so they did not get lost or have to wander aimlessly. Nate, of course was there because of his experiences in mountain climbing, surviving in the wild, among others. He was charged with helping them actually survive on the dangerous trip. After the speech, they were given a contract to sign. After everyone was done signing it, Mr Boyd stood up again. "Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to project Deathmoore. Now, I would like to tell you about the very first mission of this group —I call it, Hina Tanaka." A/N: James Brooker has been changed to Darren Brooker. Update would be twice a week.
