7 I hadn’t realized how tired I was, but I had fallen asleep reading my father’s journal and awakened only when Bandit started to growl. I was up like a bolt of lightning. Someone was outside the house and whoever it was, didn’t come for a social call either. “Shhhh, boy, it’ll be fine. Don’t make a sound, okay?” Kane was still gone, as usual when this sort of thing happens. I checked my pocket for my locket and sure enough, it was there. Slowly, I inched my way through the house, listening, trying to get a feel for who it was, and found it to be another vampire. I couldn’t read its mind very well, which was a tell-tale sign from past experiences. So my thoughts were back to wondering if this was family or one of their creations. I had one good thing on my side; I hadn’t invited them in
