11 We sat like an old married couple, me eating breakfast and Kane doing what he does best: watching me. This used to bother me, almost to the point where I would tell him to go somewhere else or at least drink something so I didn’t feel awkward, but then Bandit came in and Kane took him outside to romp with. I never thought I’d see Kane romp with a dog, but then again, there is always a first for everything. I grabbed my special blended tea and watched from the window. Bandit was quite the partner as far as catching goes. Kane would toss the ball to him and he’d jump up to grab it, then hand it back for more. This was what I wanted for us—no worries, no more watching over our shoulder, just living life to the fullest and taking it easy. I couldn’t say I wanted us to grow old together fo
