Her jaw plopped open gently, I could tell she was at a loss for words. I was as well, when I found out about my mate bond being connected to her. I also knew that when my brother found out he would do everything to be her only living mate. My legs were cramped sitting in the tiny spot next to the window. It was a cool night for the western territory that I claimed. I knew I should feel this undying need to be with her, to feel her touch under the skin of my hand but I was also in love with Scarlet. It was a shame to families when wolves and vampires seemed to fall in line with each other outside of alliances. Brown eyes met mine, I remember they used to be golden, like the hue of a beehive at sunset.
"We had a funeral for you..." She spoke softly, I could tell she wasn't sure what was happening. Even as an alpha's daughter, she hadn't seen real war since we were kids. "I hope it was awesome." I chimed thinking about the facade that my parents put together in honor of their fallen warrior son. Jokes on them. I felt her cold gaze pierce through me, even with the bond there was no warmness from her. I was going to change that. She was the only way I could get my brother to make a deal with me.
My hands reached out resting on her knees, I felt her pull away from me. "I never meant to betray the pack, but I also never meant to fall in love with a vampire." I sighed. It was true, I didn't know there was a love that could overcome that of a sacred bond. Her eyes rolled again, that seemed to be a habit that Maisie had. I liked a little attitude. "If you're in love with a bloodsucker then why do you need me?" She asked looking directly at me now. My ice gaze locked into hers, I could see her eyes turn darker the more angry she got. It did rub me the wrong way knowing that I was going to have to possibly sacrifice her to get what I wanted, but I knew I'd at least have some fun until then. "I need you, my little one to incline my brother to come here, or at least have a conversation with me." I knew it wouldn't work that easily but I was willing to try.
"As f*****g if, Killian." She hissed at me. I could almost feel her wolf growl in her chest when suddenly it clicked. Standing up I took a step back into the middle of the room. I had broken my bones time and time again to be able to shift when I wanted to, on my command. My back arched over as my body grew, the fur appeared from my skin as my wolf shifted slowly. The room was massive but he took up most of the space. I laid down, meaning that we didn't mean any harm. My wolf rested his snout just inches from her knees where she still sat. I was surprised she didn't move or flinch, sometimes you never know how someone's wolf will react.
Her body turned towards us, and for a small moment, I felt a warmth I had never felt. Her hand slowly moved toward my fur, her touch made my tail shake. Maisie didn't take her eyes off me. My wolf hummed in delight at her touch, she was only moving around my cheek but it felt good. Her skin was soft against my burgundy fur, I was always different from wolves in our pack, but she hadn't known about my color pattern. My eyes shut, sitting in the moment allowing myself to almost drift off into a trance.
"Your wolf's name is Nyko, isn't it?" She asked me. My eyes shot open, I couldn't speak but I did nod. I was curious how she knew that. My wolf didn't speak, he hadn't spoken a word to me for the past day. Perhaps he was still angry with me for kidnapping our mate forcefully. Nyko huffed and cooed into her touch, I didn't feel this part with Scarlet that warmth. "I won't help you destroy him, even if it destroys me." Her words were soft, but I knew they were deathly true. Laying on the floor Nyko tugged at the hem of her shirt with his front teeth tugging her into him. In front of the window feeling the cool air soar through she nestled into the warmth of my fur. I knew the future that held for her, for us, the least I could do was allow her to be comfortable as long as I could offer it
