I stared at Luna Maria. "Why would you help me?"
She smiled gently. "Because I was once lost too. And because the Alpha King... Damien... he's not the monster the stories say. But he can't know about the babies yet. Not until you're safe."
"Safe?" I laughed bitterly. "I'm homeless. Pregnant. And wanted."
"Not anymore," Luna Maria said. She held out her hand. "Come to Silver Moon Pack. We protect our own. You and your twins will have a home, food, and protection. No one will touch you there."
My heart twisted. A home. The one thing I hadn't had in years.
But could I trust her? Could I trust anyone?
I looked down at my stomach. For them, I had to try.
I took her hand. "Okay. I'll come."
Luna Maria's eyes lit up. "Good. We leave tonight. But we must be careful. The Alpha's guards are everywhere in this city."
As we slipped out of the alley, I felt it. A pull in my chest. Like someone was calling my name.
Damien.
I froze. That pull... it was our mate bond.
Even after he rejected me, even after I ran, part of me was still tied to him.
"Is something wrong?" Luna Maria asked, noticing me stop.
I shook my head quickly. "No. Let's go."
But inside I was terrified. What if Damien felt it too?
What if he was already on his way?
I couldn't let him find us. Not with the babies.
