Chapter 5

Carl

I don't know if Ashley was challenging me or not, but I must admit that she has a beauty that no man can resist. The first time I saw her, I didn't give much attention to her because I wanted to set boundaries in our working relationship. I didn't want to fire her and look for another one because I was getting tired of it already. So I made a decision to keep my distance from whoever my assistant would be.

But after this meeting, I don't think that I will be able to stop myself from looking at her. She is smart and her beauty and sexiness were already a given because I can see them clearly. Even without make-up, she stands out and, even in a business suit, I can tell that she's really hot. The way she exchanged conversation with Mav was really annoying. It looked like she was flirting with him and my friend was having a good time. I can already tell that I am going to be a laughing stock this weekend in the country club and I must prepare myself for that.

"Man, is she the same woman that you wanted to seduce?" Mav asked, it was just us in my office. I didn't answer him though, I will let him guess and wonder. "I don't think I don't need to ask, it was written all over your face." he added,

"What,"

"She's mine,"

"Who's yours?" I asked, because I didn't get him.

"I mean, it's all over your face, telling me that your assistant is yours already."

"Stop it man, she's not some kind of an object that anyone can own." I told him,

"Exactly, that's why you need to make a move before anyone owns her."

"You know what, you are over thinking. I am not interested in her. I just wanted to pop up her confidence to not fall for me. And you know that I don't actually believe in women either."

"What does that have to do with your assistant?"

"Ash is very smart. She does the meeting recap without taking notes. I was amazed actually. A woman like her would want to pursue her career and would throw out a relationship in exchange for her career growth." I answered. Although I don't know if she was like that, I just thought that women like her would want to excel in their own field.

"You don't know about that man. You will never know unless she actually does it," he replied,

"Let's not think about that. One thing I know is that I am ready to make her fall for me."

"Fine, but don't tell me that I didn't warn you. She may fall for you, but don't take the possibility of you falling in love with her too." I laughed at what he said. Didn't he know who he was talking to? I am Carl Porter and there's no way that I am going to fall for my assistant and I am going to make sure of that.

Mav left my office and I stayed there to check for a few more papers. Ashley was just outside my office and I'm sure of that. She was not allowed to go home while I was still working, even though I could send her home already. But I am not going to do that. I will make sure that she's going to stay with me and allow her to see and get to know me.

I was making a note of one of the proposals from the marketing department when I felt the need to go to the restroom, which was inside my office too. I keep the door ajar because it was just me in and Ashley will probably not come in to use it because they have their own restroom. I had just finished washing my hand and was wiping it dry when I heard a knock. I looked out and found Ashley getting in and walked closer to my office table.

She put her hands on her waist after she saw all the files spread on my table. Isip niya siguro ay trabaho pa ako ng trabaho kahit na alam kong hinihintay niya ako para makauwi na din siya. She took a folder and read it before she put it down and got another one. I walked out of the rest room and stood closer behind her before I spoke, "What are you looking at?"

"Oh my gosh!" she exclaimed before she turned around, only to take a step back, which was already impossible because she was already at the edge of my office table. She was holding her chest as she looked at me and so am I. We are now in a staring contest.

"I was just checking on what's keeping you busy because it was already late and you're still not coming out of your office." I was standing maybe 6 inches away from her, it was very close and I knew that if I stayed closer, I would end up kissing her. But I am going to hold myself. I didn't want to scare her and submit her resignation, right?

So, I leaned forward while she tried to avoid me by leaning backwards. I smirk at the thought that she was worried about our bodies touching. She must have been feeling something too. I saw her holding on to the edge of the table for support and I knew I had to stop what I was doing, so I took the folder behind her. The one she was holding when I decided to show myself to her.

"You're reading this?" I asked, waving the folder in her face and she looked at it as well.

"I was just thinking, maybe I can help you with something, so I tried to look into anything that I think I will be able to work on."

"And what do you think?"

"Well, I only managed to look at two folders and that's the second one I had my hands on and I think I can handle the first one." she replied, so I looked at the first folder that she was holding earlier.

"This one?" I asked and she nodded so I gave it to her. "Tell me what you think." I told her before I went back to my chair. "So?" I asked when I noticed that she was still not talking.

"Eherm," she cleared her throat, "This is a marketing proposal for the supermall and I think it would be a lot better if we included all the necessary services that we will be offering to our customers." she said, I didn't say anything and I didn't want to interrupt her because I was interested in what she was saying. She continues telling me about her views and I must admit that she has a point and decided to consider her suggestion.

"Ash," I called her and she looked at me, "Get ready to go to the Solitude Country Club this weekend. I am going to have a meeting with a grocery supplier that will be supplying us with a lot of our goods in the supermarket." I told her and she nodded. "You can leave now." I added. I could see that she was surprised and I had a feeling that she wanted to ask something but she decided not to.

"OK, Sir. See you tomorrow." she replied and left my office. I leaned back on my chair and started thinking whether I was right to bring her to the country club. I know that it might start a rumor to my friends but I wanted her to be there and hear her opinion. It was true that I was going to have a meeting with the supplier and I want to know if Ashley and I think the same.

If that's the case, then I will be very happy that she's my assistant and I might bring her with me with all the business transactions that I am going to do in the future. It's not bad to get some opinions from other people, especially when they are really smart.

I finished the day with Ashley in my mind and had started to look forward to the meeting this weekend, not caring about what my friends would tell me if ever. I was sure that Mav was going to be there and Ashley would definitely get along well with my friends because she knew how to handle Mav without looking like she was seducing or flirting with him in a slutty way. She didn't even look like a sl** when she was teasing Mav to call her whatever he wanted. It was the first time that I had looked into a woman in a different way.

It was only her first day but I can already say that she was really outstanding. Now I have to think whether I will continue my plan or keep our relationship professionally. I didn't want to lose her as my assistant and I was lucky that she was showing no interest in me at all. But I was challenged and I am torn. What to do?
