I stood there frozen, Sophia still dangling at arm’s length like a sack of very expensive, very annoying potatoes.
Edric’s question hung in the air like a bad smell I couldn’t wave away. I didn’t answer right away. Couldn’t. My brain was too busy spinning out every possible nightmare scenario at warp speed.
Scenario one…serious as how people describe a heart attack… Edric had planted Sophia here himself. Sneak in, knock her out, stage the whole thing so he could burst in and “catch” me looking guilty. One phone call to Dawn Creek and boom…war. My pack would be the villains, and he’d swoop in like the hero king while I got executed for treason. Classic cousin move.
But how did he get the key if that was the case? How did he find out about the hidden chamber?
