"Ellie!" I turned around, startled.
Allen immediately froze, like I wasn't in a conversation with him, prior to Alvin's entrance.
"What are you doing here?" he asked.
"I, uhm..." I stammered and struggled to articulate any words.
"I couldn't sleep, and I couldn't get over the rose flowers down here," I said. Even I could hear how stupid I sounded, but if there was one thing I didn't thrive at, it was going to be telling lies.
Even when my life depended on it, I just couldn't bring myself to tell a lie.
Alvin's raised brow was a clear indication that he wasn't quite buying my story and I just kept praying that he didn't push any further.
"It's not safe for you to be here," Alvin said. He came towards me and held me tenderly by the hands, leading me back up to the room.
