Eve Three hours ago The erratic beep from the monitors shot through the room. I sat beside Jermaine, half-asleep. Then, a shrill alarm from the heart monitor jolted me awake. Seconds later, nurses flooded the room. A nurse’s voice, sharp with urgency, cut through the noise. “His heart rate is spiking! Call the surgeon, now!” I stumbled back as more staff crowded in. Jermaine shivered under the hospital sheet. A nurse gently guided me toward the door. My feet felt glued to the floor. I couldn't breathe. Then a doctor pushed through, his voice a sharp command about taking Jermaine back to the operating room. Only then did my legs unlock.
