Lena
I am in the nurses’ office, lying on the bed while staring at the banners on the walls, ‘Taking shots is easy!’ and ‘Wash your hands before and after every meal.'
At least they are right about that, I adjust in my seat, suddenly feeling all uncomfortable even though I am all alone. I feel my wolf pounding inside of me, it seems like she has regained a tiny amount of strength.
‘How’re you holding in there?’ I asked her, I can feel her transferring some of her strengths to me and it makes me feel glad. Even through everything that is happening, I still have someone who will always be there for me.
‘We can’t take this anymore, Lena.’ My wolf responds inside of me, whimpering, even as she is channeling all of her energy, she's still very weak. ‘And neither can you. You weren’t built to accept bullshit from your husband, especially when he has that Scarlet lady clinging to his arms like honey.’
One thing about my wolf? She might be a little weak but she knows how to fight for herself. Sometimes, I even wish I was more like her and not the other way around.
‘Thank you,’ I tell her, my eyes watering. ‘Thank you for being with me.’
‘Of course, I have been with you. I am literally stuck with you.’ She sighs inside of me, ‘Trust me, if I could switch, I would.’ This brings out laughter from both of us.
The door opens and the nurse walks in, holding a clipboard in her hand. I know her a little too well, her name is Nyra and she’s a few years older than me, back in the academy, she used to stand up for me and even buy me lunch. I had no idea that she would go towards the medicine section in her final year, but look at us now, she now runs a clinic in town.
“Lena, good to see you here.” She says, removing her white coat and drops it on the edge of the bed. I watch as she carefully mixes the medication, her brows furrowed in concentration.
“Thank you for having me here.” I reply honestly, apparently, you have to have an appointment booked before you can visit the hospitals, every hospital in the pack was all booked. Nyra had to make space for me because it was her clinic.
“Sorry for disturbing you.” I feel really bad. This is supposed to be her lunch break right now, but she is taking time out of her busy schedule to check up on me. “You should probably be out in a restaurant eating hamburgers while sipping Chinese tea.”
“That does sound tempting, doesn’t it?” She turns towards me, smiling. “But the problem is I prefer cheeseburgers to hamburgers and who the hell sips Chinese tea these days, it’s either coffee or nothing, girl.” We both laugh and it makes me realize how much I have missed someone’s humor in my life. Even though Nyra is older than me, I still feel like I can be myself around her. She’ll always be the Nyra that used to stand up for me.
“So, what do we have here?” She walks over to me, her eyes briefly scanning the clipboard. “Here it says bruised knee, some aching bones, and a lightweight wolf. What happened, Lena?” Now, she really has a look of pure concern in her face which makes me squirm uncomfortably on the bed.
Then the Beta entered with worrisome eyes but I flashed him a reassuring smile. He stood at the left side of the bed, arms crossed and jaw tight while watching the nurse do what she’s best at.
Then slowly, his voice came up loud enough for me to hear, “If you need help, I can report this to the council.” His eyes held softness, something I have never witnessed him do before. He had always treated me with respect, but now, something changed, he seemed different.
I blinked in surprise then looked at him, a small smile tugged at the end of my lip, “That won’t be necessary. I’m really fine, just reopened wounds, that’s all."
To me, all this wouldn’t matter once I’m gone, I doubt they’d even notice my absence.
A sudden sting spread throughout my body, and my wolf whimpered in my mind. What the f**k!
Then my phone buzzed and the screen lit up with a message. It was a picture of Scarlet’s bare shoulder, turned to the camera just enough for me to see a fresh mark on it. Is that a hickey? Was Alec with her while I was in the hospital? My heart skips a beat, confusion creeps into me. My eyes are still fixated on the picture.
My breath hitched as I read the caption, “While you are at the hospital in pain, Alec’s here with me, rough handling my body and not even caring that you exist. Poor you.”
I stared at the image in disbelief, I couldn't believe that Alec could even hurt me to this extent. I exhaled slowly, my fingers trembled but only for a second.
The Beta, noticing the change in my demeanor after checking my phone leaned over and took a quick glance.
His eyes widened in disbelief too, “This can’t be real,” he muttered and continued, “Alpha Alec would never do this especially while you're still here and the Luna, I highly doubt-.”
His words were interrupted by the sound of the door slamming open, only for Alec to storm in and his eyes immediately locked into mine.
He took a step towards me, snarling while staring at me in disdain, “You ignored my mind link.”
I stared at him in irritation, words refusing to come out. No matter how much he hated me and loved her, he should at least show me some respect instead of sleeping with her while I was still in the hospital due to his push.
“Alpha, perhaps you should-” The Beta tried cutting in but was interrupted.
“I asked you a question.” His voice turned cold and he clenched his teeth in anger.
I didn’t move, I just stared into his eyes emotionless while his expression demanded an immediate answer from me, “Aren’t you going to speak?”
“You came all this way for a reply?” I sneered, the irritation now visible in my eyes, sudden hatred for him washed over him and his sight disgusted. I've never felt so betrayed in my entire life. Then here he was, acting like nothing happened as if he cared about my existence.
He frowned, jaw tight and anger visible in his eyeballs and facial expression, “Don’t play games with me, Lena.”
I squinted my eyes and cut in almost immediately, my voice turned icy and anger was evident in my tone, “Let’s stop pretending already, if this marriage is unbearable, I am more than willing to end it.” Those words came out more firmly than I even imagined. I felt better after saying that, my mind calmed down, my eyes piercing straight into his as he stood there dumbfounded.
