Her friend was a part-two student of Animal Science. Animal Science wasn't her choice, but she had adapted herself to what destiny threw at her.She was already at the top of the class. Loved and adored by her classmates and lecturers, she had won for herself a lot of admirers because of her brilliance. Sceptics and even fans continued to wonder how she could balance her relationship with her coquettish roommate turned bestie and her books. She herself was not short of surprises at her ability to juggle her friendship with her studies for these two years. Ann would never miss classes notwithstanding her social engagement. She sat in the front very close to the podium because she had some hearing defects.Her eyesight was also not good. Since she resumed in the university, the front row had been her position.She was glued to the centre of the class. Nothing could take Ann Etuk out of the campus at night. She would swot through the night. "How do you want to spend the night?" Ann asked. "You asked a lot of questions." Kemi chuckled."You should have asked me where,"she added. "Okay, where do you want to spend the night, Your Majesty." "Do I really know? It depends...Maybe the new Prof or Alhaji." That was the conversation some nights ago as Kemi was making up for her evening outing. Prof Tok's inaugural address was to take place that cloudy evening.Prof was young and scholarly. He was known to dress every time in white, suite or traditional. The campus girls liked him.His office was a rendezvous of merriment for the gírls and boys. Prof Tok schooled in France. His favourite saying was 'see Paris and die'. He loved life. He smoked, womanised and drank. The three sins! He was short with a bulging belle. One of his sobriquets was Bottle. He had the reputation of punctuating his lectures with smoking and drinking. 'Get me my anointing oil.' 'Yes,sir' his driver would run down to the car to fetch it.The anointing oil could be whiskey or schnapps. Students in the Chemistry Department found his lectures to be enthralling.He never forced any students to date him.They congragated around him out of their volition. Some he never dated.Dating him meant a lot of privileges for the catch. A wad of cash.Excursions to different hotels and parks.Recognition on campus.And many more perks.But he never sold marks. The bed was different from the classroom. A Briton,Mrs Toks lived in France. where she mothered her two young children, a medical and a law students. She had not visited Nigeria since he took employmentt with the University. The young professor was headhunted by the search team to help beef up the university Chemistry department that was losing his accreditation by the country's university commmission.The Governor of the state had to intervene by putting down some funds as incentives to bring Prof Tok and two other eggheads.He earned more than his colleagues. His wife often sent him money too. What he did with his money!
