Chapter 3:The Boy With Silver Eyes

527 Words
Morning crept gently over the village, casting golden light through Liora’s window. But there was no peace in her heart. She sat on the edge of her bed, her wrist still glowing faintly from the night before. The moonflower Soulmark was real — delicate silver petals curling around her skin like a tattoo made of starlight. Beautiful. Magical. But also terrifying. Because the boy who triggered it didn’t remember her. She could still see his face — pale under the moonlight, silver eyes sharp with power, his voice steady as he pulled her to her feet. And then, only minutes later, blank confusion when she tried to speak to him again. “Who are you?” he’d asked, as if they hadn’t just shared something sacred. She never got his name. Now, as she wrapped a cloth around her wrist to hide the mark, her mind raced. Who was he? Why was he in the cursed woods? And how could someone trigger her Soulmark — the sign of true first love — and then forget her instantly? Later that morning, she returned to the woods. She had to find him. --- The forest was quieter in the daylight, but no less eerie. Liora stepped carefully, eyes scanning every shadow. She returned to the spot where the beast had attacked — only ash remained. No sign of the boy. Then she heard it. The soft sound of water — a stream. And humming. She crept toward it, hiding behind a tree. There he was — crouched by the water, washing blood from a long silver blade. His black cloak was draped over a branch. He looked almost peaceful, not at all like someone who had just fought a monster. Liora stepped out. “You,” she said. He turned sharply, blade raised, eyes cold — until he saw her. Then they softened, but only slightly. “Do I know you?” Her heart dropped. “You saved me. Last night. From the shadowbeast.” His brows furrowed. “I… I don’t remember. I’m sorry.” “But I do,” she whispered, pulling down her sleeve to show the Soulmark. “You touched me. And this appeared.” He stared at it. “A Soulmark... That’s what that is?” “You don’t know about Soulmarks?” “I don’t remember much. Just… pieces.” He lowered his blade slowly. “I don’t even know my full name. I woke up in these woods weeks ago with this sword and no memory. I only know I can fight — and that monsters keep finding me.” Liora’s breath caught. A lost boy with no memories. A cursed forest. A forgotten bond. “What do you do remember?” she asked gently. He hesitated. Then: “The name ‘Kael.’ I think it’s mine.” Kael. The sound of it stirred something inside her. A name like wind through leaves — quiet, but full of strength. “I’m Liora,” she said. “And whether you remember or not... I think we’re connected.” Kael looked at her for a long time. “Then help me remember.” ---
