I found myself waking up in a good mood almost every morning since Josh and I returned to our normal lives. Most of the mornings, I would wake up in the lovely arms of Josh and the rare mornings when I wake up alone is when work interferes with our schedule especially business trips that separate the both of us but as much as we can survive without work, we had responsibilities. Still, work had also become fun for me. Inspirations for designs became limitless and it filled up my sketchpad faster than before. I never knew that this was really the result of being truly in love and I can’t say any negative thing about it.
“I say that you have yourself a very fine man.” Grace said one morning when she came in with the usual coffee.
“I won’t argue with that but what do you mean?” I asked as I happily accepted the coffee after an another all nighter in the office.
Grace handed me the latest issue of a business magazine. The front cover is plastered with the handsome face of my dear mate and I felt a surge of pride come over me as I smiled at it. Staring at his face makes me realize how much I really like his handsomeness and how stupid that is actually. I have to remind myself that maybe if he wasn’t part of the perfect species, which is a vampire, he won’t be this handsome. Grace cleared her throat and I immediately stopped ogling at my mate’s face. I smiled up at her sheepishly and she laughed.
“You were never like this with Mr. Williams.” Grace said after a while.
“Really? What was I like with him?”
“You were kind of acting like…it was a duty to be with him. Sure, it was sweet when you first started dating but over time I noticed that the effort you gave in your relationship was gone. I mean that’s how relationship works for most people when they get used to each other but you’re happy, more than happy.” Grace gave me a gentle smile. She’s a few years older than me but she’s actually more like an aunt and a best friend to me.
“Is that a bad thing?” I asked as I returned her smile.
“I don’t know.” She shrugged and hesitated before speaking again. “I’m just worried that you’re too in love. I’m worried that you’ll get hurt in the end.”
Grace is human and also someone I don’t want to involve in our supernatural world. I am a daughter of an Alpha and an important member of the pack, this means that I am more or less a target by rogues and enemy packs if there is. I do not want to put Grace in harm’s way that’s why I never confided in her about this despite the fact that she’s my best friend.
“Don’t worry about it. If that happens, which I doubt will ever happen, I still have you.” I reassured Grace and she shook her head.
When Grace left, I looked at the magazine again and smiled when an idea popped up in my mind. I took a selfie with the magazine and sent it to Josh with a message of how proud I am. He called almost immediately.
“I’m starting to become your fan Mr. McClain. I would like to have your autograph the next time I see you.” I expressed when I pressed answer. I heard his soft chuckle.
“You’re still in your office? So early my dear?” He asked. He is in another business trip. “If I remember correctly, you’re wearing the same clothes as yesterday.”
“I pulled another all nighter. Not that I have anything to do when you’re gone.”
Somehow, Josh and I had made it a habit to always eat dinner together no matter how late it is. It is one of the perks of being immortal that we don’t really need that much sleep.
“I’m flattered darling but I hate the idea of you exhausting yourself.” Josh said and I smiled.
“Sweet words. Thank you.” I laughed with him. “When are you coming back?”
“I’m already back. I missed you too much to stand being away for so long.” He was gone just yesterday though.
“Really? Then how about lunch together?” I perked up with excitement. He’s not the only one who can’t stand being away from him. Grace is probably right, I am too in love with him.
“How about breakfast?” He asked at the same time that the door opened and he was suddenly standing there in suite and all. I put down the phone.
He was already beside me when I stood up and we hugged.
“You’re right. I should have slept instead since you’d be here when I wake up. Saved me the t*****e of thinking about you the whole night.” I said as I kissed his cheek.
“That makes the two of us.” He chuckled and I stayed in his arm for a while before gathering my things.
“Grace-“ I started to say when we passed by her desk outside my office.
“Yes, I’m already in the process of cancelling your two important appointments today. You’re free for the whole day since you’ve done most of the work all night.” Grace interrupted while shaking her head at us.
“I was going to say that I will only be gone for a few hours for breakfast but…” I trailed off and Grace rolled her eyes before shooing us away.
True to Grace’s somewhat predictive words, Josh had also managed to get away from work and we spent the whole day together but it was probably safe to say that we spent the whole day at my apartment after breakfast. We made love and we slept afterwards since Josh said I need it after pulling an unnecessary all nighter at the office. Despite the fact that I want to spend the rare day with some sort of a date outside, spending it like this is also more than okay for me. There is also the fact that Josh and I are keeping it low-key at the moment. We are both figures in the business and entertainment worlds, it won’t be a surprise if the news of us dating explodes in the gossip column one of these days followed by the troublesome paparazzi but so far, we had safely avoided getting caught when we’re together in public and we want to keep it that way.
