CHAPTER 17 – SAW HIM AGAIN

1046 Words
I have just finished putting on my shirt over my jeans when the scent hit my nose, at the same time that the hotel room door was smashed open and 4 guys rushed in, obviously rogues. However, I was ready and used my strength to kick the bed to them before dashing out with my boots. I will be at a disadvantage if I fight them inside the room since I fight better in an open space and I also still have to consider the innocents. I thought fast as I ran and finally made a turn for the stairs. I thanked the heavens I stayed at a suit at the top floors or else I won’t know how long I will have to run before I could reach the rooftop. I heard them shouting behind me and increased my pace as I reached the locked door to the rooftop. I reminded myself to leave money in my room later on for repairs before I punched the door open. *** “One down, three to go.” I silently counted in my mind.                 I managed to wipe the blood from my cheeks before I avoided a kick from one of them. I actually didn't expect these guys to be strong. After that attack, we silently faced each other again but suddenly, we heard a c***k before the ground suddenly collapsed, the 4 of us falling in. I managed to jump and roll when I felt a solid support below my feet. We've been fighting in one spot for a period of time, no wonder the floor collapsed since their hits had always hit the floor when I avoided them.                 I used my hearing to give my eyes some time to relax from the dust. I became aware of the presence of other people, a lot of them I think but I had no time to be concerned about them since my opponents are stubborn to continue the fight. When I opened my eyes, I barely managed to avoid getting caught. I finally felt myself getting irritated and considering the fact that there are other people around, I allowed my wolf to go to hunt mode. I grabbed a piece of long metal from the debris and started fighting with them but this time, I am on the offensive side. Before long, the last corpse fell next to the two dead bodies, one already in a werewolf form. However, before I could relax, I heard clapping all around. Oh right, there were people.                 I finally realized that we were not alone all this time obviously. It seems like we had fallen in the ball room of the hotel in the middle of an ongoing party. However, I stayed on guard when I realized that the whole room is full of vampires especially when I finally took notice of the scent that had been somewhat bugging me since the ground collapsed. I turned around immediately to confirm. "Zoya?" Josh reluctantly asked as his eyes roamed around my body, specifically the blood that covered me. Worry crossed his eyes but I felt nothing upon seeing his concern.                 I did not say anything as I threw my makeshift weapon to the floor at the same time that my pack mates arrived. "I would like to apologize for the disturbance. Please accept my explanation that this was not on purpose and is only a werewolf business on rogues. I hope you enjoyed the show though." I announced and explained for the cold bloods.                 Vampires and werewolves have always been at odds with each other since the beginning of time for some unknown reason. My guess is that we can’t just stand each other. Some vampires attack us for no reason at all but our kind return the favor by doing so as well. The present is a bit different this time though because the generation today somehow stopped caring. However, maybe it’s just embedded deep inside us all along considering that Josh and I didn’t work out. I looked at Josh blankly before turning around to leave. A cold hand stopped me and I felt the spark that made my calm heart squirm this time. "Zoya... " Josh held firmly on my hand and  I just stared at his hand before looking up. "Sir please let go. I still have business to take care of. " I was actually surprised at how cold my voice is. "Your fiancee might misunderstand"                 When Josh finally let go, I unexpectedly felt disappointed and hurt and this made me silently furious at myself for hoping. Was I really hoping that Josh would say that he's not engaged? I mentally shook my head and walked out. Josh did not follow me but the curious stares of the vampires followed me out of the ballroom. I let out a silent sigh of relief when I stepped inside the elevator. Josh in his grey suit earlier appeared in my mind and I unconsciously started praising him for still staying handsome as usual. It’s a charm of the cold blooded vampires to be attractive and I shouldn’t be fooled by it but Josh, even if we’re not together, is still my mate. It’s always a natural reaction to appreciate your mate’s physical appearance even if he or she turns out to be the ugliest person in the whole universe. The phrase “Love is blind” also strongly applies to us. However, seeing Josh again made me miss Day much more.                 My sleeping beauty of a daughter has never recovered form whatever disease, calamity or curse she is experiencing. The most major problem that we’re facing right now is the way her physical body is aging. It’s been a year since Zyla’s diagnosis on Day’s growth and a year has so many days and hours to make Day’s body resemble a 5-years-old’s body. A person can watch her for 5 minutes and he can see how Day is changing. However, as usual, I’m still running away. I just could not bear watching Day like that especially when I can’t even do anything to help. I’m really a coward and a bad mother but most of all, I am very scared of seeing Day turn into an old woman because what comes after that age is death.
