Arabella started making a plan. She had been able to convince Stuart to go back to his cubicle, but now she had to make her way back to Jake’s office without being seen. She ran through some simple spells she could use, but decided against it. She knew that the building was protected with very strong spells and charms. Doing a spell here was dangerous and would set off too many alarms. she also preferred to only use magic as a last resort. That left her one choice: To just walk back to Jake’s office and ignore everybody like usual.
The place was a maze of cubicles but when she finally neared Jake’s door, a crash from inside his office brought security running. She followed them in and was surprised at what she saw. The chair she had sat in earlier was flipped over, the papers on Jake’s desk were scattered everywhere. She looked to Jake to ask what happened, but the words died on her tongue. Jake had Mr. Blue pinned to the wall by the throat. It looked like she should have been more worried about Mr. Blue than Jake. The goon that had been with Mr. Blue was nowhere to be seen.
By the time two burly security guards pulled Jake off of Mr. Blue, several people were looking in at the scene. There were faces of surprise and dismay, and when people noticed that Mr. Blue had a swollen lip and possible black eye forming, she heard murmurs of appreciation. Mr. Blue was not a well-liked man. She tried to blend in among the onlookers, hoping to hear some gossip that might shed light on the situation.
“Arabella, weren’t you supposed to be in the café?”
Arabella turned toward Stuart and plastered a look of dismay on her face. “I was, but when I saw the security guards running…”she stopped as he waved to cut her off.
“Whatever. I am going to get these lookie-loos out of here, and you can go talk to Jake about this. This whole thing is going to blow up.” With a final look at her, he walked to the nearest office workers and started ushering them back to work. She had no idea how right Stuart was.
