Whispers Amidst Roses

"Hey," he heard but didn't bother looking up to see whoever it was who had the audacity to barge into his office. But, he didn't because he already knew who it was. "What is it you want this time, Zane? I'm in no mood for jokes." James voiced to his friend, not bothering to look up to him one bit. His eyes were solely fixed on the documents he was working on. "Come on. Don't tell it's because I refused to give you an extension, that's why you're acting this way." Zane, said, and James could definitely feel him smirking. "I don't think there's anytime you've been sensible enough to get guesses right. So, I'll just pass." James threw at him. "But, I was able to get the fact that you're attracted to Adrianne, right?" He questioned. This time, he was already sitting right across from James. At the mention of the name, Adrianne, James stopped what he was doing, and let out a deep sigh. "Why are you here? I know you definitely didn't come here to play the good friend. What is it? Spill it out." James let out, his eyes on his friend. "Of course, I didn't. However, I came to give you a good information. And I believe it's one that could help you. But that's only if you listen." Zane said, with all seriousness, staring his friend deep in the eyes. "Spill it out quickly. Whatever it is. You can see I've got work to do." James said, indicating to the pile of files on his table. Zane drew his chair closer, and rested on the table, more like a little kid about to tell his brother or friend a secret. "So, a little birdie said they saw your Adrianne girl with someone." He began. "Who? Rick? It definitely must be him. He just doesn't know how to stop." James grunted and continued with what he was doing. "No, not Rick man." Zane said, waving his hands at his friend so as to shut him up. But, unfortunately, dear James was hooked up. "Then, if it isn't Rick, then who? I believe she has lots of friends, so it could be one of them." James said, getting frustrated at the fact that his friend was not fast enough to tell him the real deal. "Damien, your brother." Zane let out immediately, causing James to pause in shock, stopping what he was doing. He turned to look at Zane who could already see the whirlwind of emotions. "I know you might find it hard to believe me. It was the same for me too. I didn't believe at first, because what the hell can they have in common?" He went on explaining. "Where did you get them? What were they doing together?" James suddenly asked. "Unfortunately they were coming out of Damien's house." He said, and James felt his heart shred into pieces. "But, I don't know about whatever it is they might have been doing together, or have together." He completed. What could Adrianne be doing at Damien's house. And how the hell did they get to know each other? He thought inwardly. This was someone he had thought he now had a chance getting closer to her. But then, she and his brother? For God's sake. That was definitely shocking. And he knew the kind of brother he had. He was quite aware of how much he is hated by Damien. The more reason why he was worried about her with him. "Why do I just find it hard to believe you?" James said, his eye on Zane, hoping one way or the other, he was lying. "That's what you want to think. You're also praying deep down that I might be lying. But then, I've never been as honest as this." Zane said. "In fact, I've got evidence." The moment he said that, James eyes shifted, expectant of whatever it was his friend had just said. Immediately, Zane pulled out multiple pictures from his breast pocket, dumping them on the table for his friend to see. And as many as they were, they were of the same thing. At first, James shut his eyes close. He didn't want to believe the pictures contained his brother and the woman he was beginning to fall in love with. But then, he knew if he wanted to find out the truth, he had to open his eyes to see. Which he did. "This could mean anything you know. I don't want to think that way yet. Damien has his whore." James let out, wiping off the sweat that had already began to envelope on his face. "Yes, you're right. But, what if Adrianne happened to be one of them?" Zane asked, passing him a concerned look. ******* "Goddd!!" Adrianne yelled in annoyance, pacing about the room. "Will you just be calm already? You might end up yelling the house down." Susan, her best friend said, staring at her in confusion. "How the hell do you expect me to be calm? This guy is literally trying to blow my brains out." Adrianne said, staring at her friend with a wide eye. "After all, it's a good gesture. Who doesn't like flowers?" Susan laughed. "Come on Susan," Adrianne called out and sat back on the bed. "My house is literally getting filled with flowers." "What about the money attached to every flower? That's a plus." Susan said, passing her friend a wink. Adrianne breathed out. She thought of the right words to use in responding to her friend. But, there was nothing. She had completely gone weak. It's been two weeks since she broke up with Rick. And ever since then, flowers have been a constant visitor at her door. As much as she loved flowers, and the romantic gestures, she was beginning to get annoyed at it. Especially since it was a recurring thing. "I'm definitely sure it's Rick." Adrianne suddenly let out. "How sure are you? It could be your secret admirer." Susan said again. Susan was Adrianne childhood best friend. And the complete opposite of Adrianne. It was always said that where Susan was the dull one, Adrianne got the post of the smartest girl. Susan had called over to come spend the night at her place, with another flower being delivered right up after she came in. "I don't need to be too sure to know it's him. Secret admirers would have started long ago. But this started right after our break up." Adrianne stubbornly said. "Then, what to plan on doing?" "Watch me." Adrianne said and stood up from the bed immediately. She picked up her phone from her dressing table, and at two rings, he picked. "I really think it's high time you get a piece of me young man." She said over the phone, her voice so stern. "Adrianne? What's wrong? What are you implying?" Rick asked over the phone. "Stop sending me flowers, Rick. They're not going to get us back together. I'm done." She said, and was about to drop off he call when his response stopped her. "But, I've never sent you flowers." "Quit the lies. I know it's you. You're only trying to get me back." She adamantly said. "Yes you're right. I might be trying to get you back. But not with flowers. Find out who it came from." He said, and an angry Adrianne quickly cut the call. "What did he say?" Susan asked, looking at her. "What do you expect? He denied it."
