~Flashback~

I woke up this morning to the sound of pounding on the door. Which isn’t good for this Hangover I’m nursing. Fredrick and I opened a club and last week was the first week of business we almost lost our alcohol license cause our human bartender sold Our Were Punch to Humans. Alcohol for Weres is like drinking juice but, when you have a witchy friend or two who can brew a few batches of top-shelf booze it's great for business but awful for the next day.

“Why are you banging on my door this early in the morning Wilson”?

“Sorry dude but Elisabeth sent me to get you she said she’s been trying to link you but you're not answering, it’s your uncle dude he’s not looking too good”?

I almost instantly sobered, Uncle Eugene and I weren't the closest until recently mostly due to my attitude after my mom's death. But he’s not a bad person and my cousins, his daughters are amazing. They dealt with all my bs when my mom died I was on a destructive path. Fighting, and hating everything and everyone. Until last year when I took his offer to train seriously. I trained and became an even better fighter. I took strategy classes and business classes I learned how to run this pack alongside my cousin, she was next in line for Alpha but he said he wanted for me to reach my full potential since I’m of Alpha blood also.

I figured why not I planned on opening a few businesses along with my line of clubs. Which is a lot of work in itself.

I ran to my dresser and put on some sweatpants and a hoodie. I had to hop on my motorcycle since I was no longer staying at the pack house I lived in one of the apartments, On the pack lands.

I made it to the pack house in record time. When I got to the Alpha floor it was so somber. His daughters Elisabeth and Eva were there. I saw Elisabeth’s mate Timothy he’s a Beta at Gray Mountain Pack about 5 hours north of us. Standing next to Eva was an Alpha I had never met but I could tell based on his aura. Along with Frederick and his dad and Wilson and his Dad as well.

When I stepped into the door Eva rushed over with tears in her eyes and pulled me into a hug. I’m sure she needed it more than me. A low growl came from that Alpha I had never met. Eva released me and we both looked at him.

“OH..hush this is my little cousin Ezra I told you about.” She said walking over to him and grabbing his hand. And pulling him towards me.”

Ezra this is my mate, Alpha Wayne of Cave Water Pack, Wayne this is my cousin Ezra”.

He put his hand out to shake I did the same. “ “When did you find your mate? I asked her utterly confused”.

“Last week when I went to the Summit, have you not noticed that I haven’t been here”. She stated.

“I mean yeah but I thought you were on Alpha business, I’ve been busy with my club opening.”

That’s right, I didn’t realize it was ready to open so soon, how has everything been going? She asked me.

Before I could answer the door leading to my uncle's bedroom opened. The pack doctor and a robed Lunite. The Lunites are our go-between for the goddess Selene they protect her shrines, some even perform mating ceremonies only between true mates no chosen’s, and help us guide our wolves back to her on our end.

“ Alpha Eugene will be leaving this world soon and Alpha Eva, Ms. Elisabeth, and Young Ezra if you would like to say goodbye now is the time.” The pack doctor said with sadness in his voice.

We walked into his room the mates followed us. I stood back so his daughters could have their time. This moment made me wish I had been there for my mother when she died that I could have held her hand and told her I loved her.

I watched as Eva introduced Her mate and listened to him promise he’d protect my cousin. Then I heard, “Ezra” the old man whispered barely getting it out.

“ Uncle, I said as I kneeled before him”. He put his hand on my cheek. The last thing he said was Proud. His lifeless hand dropped and my cousins began to cry so hard.

I stepped back to the wall, I was shaking I was confronting so many unspoken feelings in that moment. I ran out of the room through the pack house I heard someone calling for me I couldn’t make out who it was. I tossed my hoodie off and phased into my wolf. My wolf Roman was huge he was black with a blueish undertone, I had white on my paws and the underside of my tail.

I ran into the middle of the pack land and let out a heart-wrenching howl followed by my cousins who I had just noticed had followed me out. Then the echoes of pack members howling for the loss of their Alpha.

Three Day's later

It was time to lay my uncle to rest we had to build a funeral pyre every member collected a piece of firewood and the pups collected flowers. The Lunites and the Elders came to the funeral along with some of his friends from all over. We ate and sang, and drank, telling stories of his life. At dusk, we would light the pyre and go for a pack run.

At dusk, my father showed his face. His only brother died and he was here for the transfer of power. What a douche, I looked over to Eva and she saw the look in my eye.

She grabbed my arm. “He’s not worth it Ezra, he never has been and he never will be”. She stated I had gotten over a lot of things but I’ve always blamed my dad for my mother’s death, or at the very least me not being there to protect her.

“Now that it is Dusk we light this pyre to burn away the flesh and release the soul, this wolf as we have heard today was a great man, a father, and a friend to many. Most of all he was a humble servant of Selene. So we ask our goddess to help this man rest and let his wolf run for eternity”

After the pyre was lit we moved away so the Elder could perform the transfer of power. “We Elders are saddened for our reasons for being here today. But even in the face of grief we have a duty to perform”. The Elder said as he opened a scroll and began to read the contents of it.

I, Alpha Eugene Blane hereby offer my seat and power to my nephew Ezra Akana. I do this in the hope that he will protect and provide for the Moon Rock pack. I ask this of him and give this to him freely and of sound mind, my heir.

Shocked doesn’t even begin to explain what I was feeling. He wants me to be Alpha.

“ Do the children of the Alpha contest this will”? The elder stated.

I looked over to Eva and Elisabeth they smiled at me. “ We do not,” they both said clearly and unwavering.

“What is happening Eva I linked her”?

I’m mated to an Alpha and he lives too far for us to combine, Elisabeth has been mated and living in a different pack for 3 years now she isn’t going to come back. It’s you Ezra he’s wanted you to be his heir for years now. If you don’t accept then by right it’s your father’s”.

Shit… Uncle Eugene why, was all I could think.

“ I contest, Eugene was my brother, his daughter’s forfeit even though women shouldn’t be Alphas anyway. Me and my cousins mates all growled. "Tuh you think I care, Ezra is my son and my Heir he doesn’t get the right to this pack before me”. My father yelled out ferociously.

“Edmond you would be correct in the instance your brother didn’t leave a will, and his daughters forfeit their claim. However, he stated that Ezra would be his heir. Not you, but because you have a blood claim, you may challenge your son to a death Dual”. The Elder stated.

"A death dual are you insane, my father said what he wanted, if he wanted Edmond to be Alpha he would have claimed it. You’re saying a fight to the death a father and son". Elisabeth said astonished by the elders for even mentioning it.

“I understand it’s upsetting but it’s our way, he doesn’t have to challenge him it’s just an option”. The elder repeated.

“Ezra are you accepting the role as Alpha of Moon Rock Pack. Yes or No”. The Elder turned to me I had no time to think he wanted to know now.

“Look the boy isn’t even sure, he doesn’t want it transfer the power to me now”. My father growled out.

“Human we are Alpha I believe in us in our ability”- my wolf Roman stated

“YES”… I blurted out. Yes, I accept the Alpha seat as my uncle's heir”.

“Well so be it”… before the elder could continue my father spoke up.

My father belted out. I challenge future Alpha Ezra Akana to a death Dual for the Alpha seat of Moon Rock Pack.
