Rachel
She was trying to use the opinions of the other people here to force me to drink.
"It has nothing to do with her." I said calmly.
I did not reach out for the glass cup even with her grim face.
"Are you sure?" She did not wait for me to answer before she continued, "You might not want to accept the drink we gave because I am friends with Patricia."
I tucked my phone into my pockets, "Why would I not be sure? You are friends with Patricia doesn't mean I would hold a grudge with you for what she did."
Polly perked up after she heard my words. It was like she was injected with adrenaline.
She was similar to a cat that got an hidden rat.
"So, you mean you have been holding grudges with Patricia? Is that why you refused to accept the drink?" Polly said in a rush.
I shook my head.
Polly was just going round and round. She was repeating what I had already replied to.
She was right about the fact that I did not want to accept the drink she poured because of Patricia.
Patricia was an old employee of Steel Cell Group. One of her over-performing friends might think they are seeking justice by trying to hurt me.
It was better to be careful.
"You said you did not reject the apology drink because I was friends with Patricia. That was clearly a lie!" Polly continued, "Did you think we would spike your drink with an unknown substance?"
I folded my arms in front of my chest, "Did you?"
I did not want to waste any saliva by trying to rebut her accusations.
She would keep coming up with more things to throw at me.
She fell silent.
Her words seemed to be stuck in her throat.
"I did not out anything in your drink. I opened the bottle a few seconds ago!" Polly argued after she found her voice, "See, I will prove it to you."
Polly drank from the cup.
She gave to one of the women sitting on the couches.
The woman drank from the cup too before passing the cup around.
Everybody present in the room room drank from the cup.
Whenever the contents of the cup finished, Polly refilled it.
I watched carefully as all of them drink the red liquid in the cup.
After each and every one of them had a taste of the contents of the bottle, Polly brout out a new cup and poured the red liquid into it.
She stretched out the hand holding the cup to me.
"Are you convinced now? Nobody is trying to poison you. Nobody is trying to spike your drink." Polly said.
I started to second-guess myself.
Was I mistaken?
Maybe their elaborate scheme is hidden somewhere else instead of a drink?
I had observed the people that drank the cup Polly passed around. Nothing happened to them.
They just had a flush on their cheeks that came from alcoholic consumption.
I waited for a few minutes to see if anybody would have an adverse effect after drinking the red liquid in the bottle Polly opened.
Nothing was happening so I collected the cup from Polly.
I felt uncomfortable.
If these people trap wasn't in a spiked drink, what measures are they going to take?
I could have stood on my decision to refuse the cup Polly offered but I didn't.
I wanted to know what they were planning.
I wanted to see if I was really wrong about them.
It might be idiotic to do this but I wanted to try anyway.
Important knowledge came with risks or hard work.
I would love to know who the good coworkers are and I want to be aware of those that want to harm me.
I can confirm that most of the girls here in this private room didn't like me.
The tiny minority remaining wanted to remain neutral.
I don't know these women that hates me from anywhere.
I don't know if their views of me was painted with a bad color because of Patricia or they hate me because I am Chase's secretary.
I raised the cup to my lips and gulped the co tents in the cup down.
The wine flowed through my throat like a calming red sea until I began to notice something different.
The calming red sea began to morph into tumultuous waves of lava.
The liquid burned its way into my stomach.
A red blush appeared on my cheeks.
The room began to burst with multicolored lights.
I could not understand.
Nothing happened to the other people in the room when they drank that wine.
Why was I the only one affected?
I knew it was the wine that was showing its effects.
I did not touch anything in this room except the wine.
I raised my eyes to look at the other people in the room.
Nothing was wrong with them, it was like I had observed before. Their face was just flushed from the wine they drank.
These people that called themselves my coworkers had their phones out. They were poised to record.
I observed everybody carefully.
I heaved a sigh of relief when I saw that there was no men standing up.
The incident with Ted gave me a lasting scar.
Still, I was not out of danger yet.
A free feeling was eroding my senses.
It was like I was in a free space that I could do what I liked or what I wanted to do.
A new fire was gathering at my core, it was igniting a thirst I did not know I had.
It was like my body was a warzone with two mighty generals trying to gain each other's territory.
These people obviously put something in my drink but for some reason, they were not affected even when we drank the same wine.
I took a step towards the door and the world shook.
It was like I was stepping on a mound I did not know was there.
My teeth dug into my bottom lip. I kept on biting myself until blood spilled.
The metallic taste of my blood and the pain I felt sobered me a little.
The effects of biting my lip was minimal but it was better than nothing.
I put one leg after another torturously.
Laughter rang in the private room and Patricia voice was the loudest. It was also the shrillest and it dug into my ear drums.
"Why are you quiet? You were behaving very cocky a few moments ago." Patricia mocked with a smile on her face.
Whatever drug that was working on me made her smile more distorted and evil.
I did not reply.
My tongue felt heavy and dry.
She walked up to me. Her ugly smile was still on her lips.
"Speak! You mouth wasn't this quiet when you tried to take my job away from me." Patricia spat.
She stretched her hand out in a bid to drag me back into the private room.
I dodged her hands and I used all the strength I could muster at that moment to shove her away.
"Patricia, she is volatile right now. Don't let her injure you." A woman said.
"Yes." A man agreed, "We agreed to not touch her. We don't want to get in trouble, let her go crazy by herself. The door is locked right?"
The man turned to Alexis but her face paled significantly.
"I-i forgot to lock the door after we came in." Alexis said.
I had already stumbled to the door.
I didn't feel anything when I heard Alexis' voice.
I wanted her to be my friend because of the aura she gave. Now, I know I made a mistake for wishing she was my best friend or close buddy.
She was not worthy of me.
All the people in the room stood up.
I noticed that the atmosphere became heavy.
I pushed the door open and staggered out of the private room.
I rushed towards the bathroom.
I had seen it when Alexis was bringing me upstairs.
I was thankful that I had the habit of observing every place I went to.
I did not bother to go out of the restaurant.
I would be more vulnerable if I go out in this state.
"Waiter, did you see one of our drunk friends pass by? She is high and drunk. We are worried that she would do something bad to others or the restaurant itself." A man's voice said with confidence.
If I wasn't the person they were trying to catch, I would have believed this man.
He was the man that tried to stop Patricia from attacking me personally.
I ran into the bathroom and locked the door.
"She went to the bathroom. Good luck in finding her." The waiter said with a slight disapproving tone in his voice.
Numerous footsteps rushed to the bathroom.
The bathroom had two separate areas for males and females.
I was hidden in the male bathroom.
The footsteps rushed to the female bathroom first.
I dialed the number I had saved on my speed dial.
The phone rang for a second before the person at the other line answered the call.
"Rachel? Are you back from your workers' get-together?" Chase's voice was soothing and it gave me more power.
It did not help the inebriation though.
"Chase, I am in trouble. Come pick me up. I am inside the male bathroom of The Music Meal." I rushed out.
I wanted to say more but I heard a mess of footsteps hurrying to the male bathroom.
I switched my phone mode to silent. It took many errors before I could get it right.
I stayed as still as I could.
The silence made me hear the blood flowing through my veins and arteries.
I stared at the door to the cubicle I was in intensely.
The ball was in Chase's court now.
