Rachel
The next day was as tedious as ever. Chase refused to give me any leeway.
He disregarded the relationship between us.
"Photocopy these papers for me. Three copies for each page." Chase said before he handed a set of papers to me.
I grumbled softly.
I made sure it wasn't loud but I expressed my displeasure.
"You are not cutting me some slack at all." I said as I clutched the papers.
I was getting nowhere with Chase. I did all I could.
I dressed well.
I made sure I made slight touches in the boundaries of decency as a way to tempt him.
I try every way to showcase my good side.
Still, I was getting zero response from him.
His dark eyes would look at me with a devouring gaze sometimes. That was all I could get and it didn't prove anything.
The relationship between I and Chase needed a strong catalyst to push it forward.
I needed something tangible. Dark gazes would get me nowhere.
I was sad and happy that my charms didn't really work on him.
I was sad that he wasn't responding to me and I was happy to see him disregard the passive seduction I was practicing.
It meant that no lady would be able to seduce him away using her body.
Chase was as stable as an ancient well.
Chase's eyebrow rose at my complaint.
His look caused a shiver to race down my spine.
A tiny red blush rose to my cheeks.
He tilted his head to the side, "I thought you said you wanted to learn finance and business from me?"
"Yes, I said that. Still, you didn't have to murder me with all this work." I grumbled again before I dashed out of his office.
I didn't want to begin an argument with Chase.
Whaargument would succeed in doing is making me hot and bothered.
I can not seem to go past Chase enigmatic eyes.
His eyes felt like they were looking into my soul and my secrets.
To promote a team spirit between coworkers and colleagues, Chase didn't add a coffeemaker or a printer to his office.
There was one hugeroom that housed printers and other similar items. There was another separate room to make coffees.
I was shocked when I noticed this arrangement. Chase didn't use his position and wealth to oppress his employees. They feared him out of respect.
I walked briskly to the printing room.
Soon, I began printing the papers Chase wanted me to photocopy.
My mind was on strategies I could use to bring Chase over to my side.
The advices I found on the internet was proving to be useless. I obeyed every reasonable one I found but it was to no avail.
Right now, I have to brainstorm original ideas myself.
A hand tapped me on my right shoulder.
I jolted from my thoughts and I faced the culprit.
A beautiful woman with red hair and grey eyes stood there with a smile on her lips.
She was dressed in smart red gown that highlighted her figure without being pushy.
I looked at her in askance, "Why did you tap me? Is there something you need from me?"
The time I spent on the job was not up to a month.
I didn't really interact with anybody because Patricia's existence gave me a warning.
I don't even know if she blabbed about the close relationship between Chase and I.
Sometimes, I feel my colleagues' strange eyes on me. Most of them treat me neutrally though.
Still, my mind wasn't at rest.
Patricia didn't make a vengeful attack on me these past few weeks. She was too quiet.
I don't normally leave my house but I was a little bit good at observing a person's character and attitude.
Patricia was not the kind of person to stay calm after a person have offends her. She is vengeful. I could see it from her eyes.
She had looked at me with a burning gaze when her direct superior told her to receive her punishment in the Human Resource Department.
She waved her hand, "I don't need anything from you. I was the one that was tasked to inform you of the workers' outing we are going to have after work."
I tilted my head to the side.
I did not know that I tilted my head exactly the way Chase does his.
"Workers' outing? What that?" I asked as my hands kept photocopying the required papers.
"It is nothing much. It is like a get-together with coworkers and colleagues. All of us just hang out and mingle." The woman explained, "By the way, my name is Alexis."
I didn't reply her.
I was a little tprn between the option of going or the choice to sit this get-together out.
I was not familiar with these people.
These past few weeks I was working for Chase, I did not interact with them very much so the relationship between me and my coworkers was basically nonexistent.
I don't know who has great relations with Patricia. They might try to get revenge on me.
Still, being wary of Patricia doesn't mean I would cower away.
I need to know my coworkers too. I need to make my own friends.
Trying to avoid mingling would just achieve am opposite effect.
Alexis did not leave even with my sudden silence.
Only the sound of the printing machine accompanied us.
Soon, I finished my task and I turned around to face Alexis.
"I would love to be there. Where is the location?" I questioned.
Alexis brought out her phone, "Call your number. I would text the details to you later."
I nodded, "My phone number is 096394697."
I left the printing room after I recited my number to Alexis.
When I got to Chase's office, I handed the papers I had photocopied to him.
"What's wrong?" Chase asked as his eyes roamed my face.
It seemed like my emotional disturbance was noticed.
I cleared my throat, "My colleagues just invited me to a get-together. It is no big deal."
Chase's eyebrow rose.
"You said it isn't a big deal. Then, why are you upset?" Chase asked as he paused his work.
The warm feeling in my insides made a smile bloom on my lips.
"I just thought of something unpleasant." I explained.
"Okay, if you say so." Chase said, "Sit on the couch and relax. You deserve a break."
My smile got bigger as I walked to the couch.
I didn't do anything over the top but I made sure I sashayed as I moved. I can not let all my learning go to waste.
Evening I knew that Chase might remain unmoved, my desire to try hadn't abated.
"Look at how caring you are. Should I keep bringing an upset face to work so you can spare me from the mountain of work you ask me to do everyday?" I joked as laid on the couch.
Chase chuckled.
"If you do that, your workload would increase instead of decreasing. Cherish this break well, you might wait for a long time to enjoy this kind of privilege again." He warned before going to his work.
"You are no fun." I brought out my phone as I rebutted.
A ding sounded.
An unknown number sent me a message.
I did not block the number straightaway, I opened the message instead.
I was right, Alexis was the person behind the unknown number.
She had sent the details she promised.
