A Weak Heart

1210 Words
KLAUS: I lurk in the dark, waiting for the bastard to step out of his apartment. A dagger remains hidden in my jacket. Knowing fully well that he is human, I have to hide my identity from him so as not to attract werewolf hunters. Knowing that Greta would have no idea of this day, it fuels my desire to keep waiting until he walks out and soon enough, I find the door to his apartment opening before I lean away from the wall and begin to follow after him. He has bandages wound around his arm and a sling and cast to protect his wound. I'm glad my men broke his hand. He rounds the corner leading to the elevator and just as he walks in, I rush in after him before the door shuts. He staggers backwards, his eyes wide in fear as he hits the corner of the elevator. "Wha-what are you doing here?!" I scoff, moving towards him and looking up at the ceiling. "What do you think I am doing here?" "Haven't you done enough?!" He cries out. "You took my woman from me, you almost had me killed on my wedding day. What do you f*****g want!" His eyes narrow and I see the slight resemblance we share. His hair is raven black and his eyes are as blue as mine but I know a whole lot of people who share the same features as us both populating the whole country. "What do I f*****g want?" I reiterate. "You laid your hands on Greta, didn't you?!" "What are you talking about?" He acts oblivious but I know he is lying. His heart rate has increased and his irises have dilated. I am once again glad that I am a werewolf. "Don't act stupid," I grab him roughly by the collar of his shirt, pushing him into the wall with brute force. He lets out a cry of pain, struggling against me but I am too strong for him. "You hit Greta. I f*****g saw the black eye you gave her! Is that what you've been doing since you both started dating? And you claim to love her? You're a good for nothing piece of s**t! You do nothing, she provides for you and yet, you treat her like s**t! You make her cry and work like a mad woman!" "Let me go, you maniac!" He cries out and throws his hand forward to land a punch on my face but I move out of the way before catching his fist with mine and twisting. He lets out a yell of pain and before he crashes to the ground, I send two punches, breaking his ribs in the process before kicking him in the head. He lay on the floor, bleeding and coughing profusely. Crouching low to his level, I pull his face harshly and spit at him before pulling out my dagger and bringing it to his face, making sure I leave a deep cut to remind him never to hurt Greta. "This is the last time I'll be here. Make sure you stay away from her or I'll kill you this time around!” I yell amidst his cries of pain, watching in satisfaction as he bleeds out on the floor. The elevator dings and I walk out, not minding if he bleeds to death. I have just gotten to my car when I am overcome with dizziness. My chest tightens, hurting like a b***h. I can hear the abnormal beat of my heart as I fish for my keys, jumping in and revving up the engine. Breath starts to leave me as I zoom out of the parking lot and I immediately pick my phone, placing a call to my beta. "Fenrir!" I call out weakly to him. "I think I am having another heart attack. Meet me down by the boulevard and make sure you…" My phone slips out of my hand, crashing to the floor and before I can reply to Fenrir's panicked yells, I blank out of oblivion. ***** "Klaus, can you hear me?" A voice fades in and out from time to time and I try to reach out for the threads of consciousness binding me to my body but it is almost impossible. "Klaus?" That sounds like Fenrir. He's probably almost peeing in his pants. Damn, he loves me so much but he's never going to admit to that. My thoughts halt when my nose catches a familiar scent. Greta. She's the one. My body jumps with excitement and now, I want to be really close to her. I want to stay awake. "What is wrong with him?" She asks in her soft voice. It is riddled with so much worry. "He's going to be fine," Fenrir replies to her. "You have to wait outside. The doctor is here— Klaus, you're awake!" I sit up immediately, searching around the room for sights of Greta. Then I see her standing at the other side of my bed and my heart melts. "Hey." She blinks and takes a step back. "You're alright. I thought something was wrong with you." Before I can say anything else, she walks out of the room just as the doctor walks in. Fenrir shakes his head at me before standing by the side and waiting for the doctor to run his diagnoses. "Your majesty," The doctor begins after he has taken a few tests. "We need to run more tests on the nature of your condition. Your health might begin to deteriorate for good if we don't tackle this issue immediately." I lean back into the bed, sighing as I rake my fingers through my hair. "What should be done then?" He shrugs. "I do not know. Not yet at least. You need to visit the clinic for thorough tests and a scan." Then he takes a pill bottle out of his briefcase, placing it on my bedside table. "In that bottle are calendula flower pills, good for your overall cardiac health. You're going to feel better after some time but you still need to run more tests so we are sure of what exactly is wrong. Please, do not relent to visit as soon as you can." "Of course, doctor. Thank you so much for replying in due time." He bows. "It is my duty to serve the throne, your majesty. I'll see you later." As soon as he leaves, Fenrir draws close to me. "What the f**k happened, dude?" I heave a sigh. "I must have exerted so much energy this evening." "But you have been doing that for a long time now since you were diagnosed." I shrug. "It's probably getting worse. I beat up that bastard who hit Greta." "Her fiancé?" I growl at him and he immediately corrects himself. "I don't know who the f**k he is but will you let Greta know of this?" "That I beat the s**t out of that good for nothing bastard? No. She's going to hate me." "No, Klaus. Are you going to let Greta know that you are close to having a heart failure?" I look down at my hand before letting out a sigh. "She doesn't have to know.”
