Chapter 2

The muscular arm around my waist becomes even tighter, making it a little hard to breathe. A deep growl comes from above me, it resonates through my body and rattles my bones. The sound was menacing and absolutely terrifying. Well it was to everyone but me, I knew I was safe. It was everyone else I was worried about. “Who the f**k are you?” Roman growls. His amber eyes have not moved from Drake. I’d be rolling my eyes right now if I wasn’t still in shock. Still a territorial ass, I see. “I hate to break up this shindig, but we are drawing lots of unwanted attention. How about if we go somewhere with more privacy?” I try to sound confident, but I don’t know if I quite accomplish it. My voice shook near the end. The idea of being alone with these two was not how I imagined my night would end. If I’m dreaming wake me up now. I pinch myself for good measure. Ouch! Nope, definitely real. “Gabby? Are you okay?” Drake asks. He’s super tense. His hands are up in surrender so as to appease Mr. Growly. His eyes have not left mine since he assessed the situation. “I’m fine Drake. I’m going to take them back to our place.” I sigh. “We have some catching up to do.” I look at both Roman and Drex. Neither one of them looked happy when I said, “our place”. In fact, they look downright murderous. If Drake was smart, he’d sleep somewhere else for the night. “Are you sure Gabby?” “I’m positive Drake.” I pause and mumble, “Like Donkey Kong.” Hoping he will hear me. Man, this is so embarrassing. Why couldn’t we have picked a cooler code name? Drake runs his hands through his blonde hair. “Fine, but I don’t like it. I’ll stay with a friend for the next few days. That should give you plenty of time to talk with your boy toys.” His eyes narrow on Drex, then Roman. “If I come home and she is dead or missing I will find you. And I will make you string you up by your balls until I decide to end your miserable lives. Do you understand?” Aw, I’m touched. He made a death threat if they hurt me. What the poor guy doesn’t know yet is that they can’t hurt me. At least not physically. Drex and Roman both nod slightly. Drexel’s expression never changed from the blank, cold glare. His trademark look, resting b***h face. Roman just sneers, showing off his slightly longer canines. His eyes are starting to glow a bit, which means his wolf is close to the surface. We need to leave like, right now. I don’t know how much longer these two will last before they throw the rule book out the window and expose what they are. “Go Drake, I’ll be fine.” He looks at me like he’s torn. I know he doesn’t want to, but it’s in his best interest. He hesitantly walks back to the bar, probably to get a stiff drink. I know I need one, because the buzz I had going earlier is officially gone. “Donkey Kong?” Roman asks. His voice deeper because of his wolf. I groan, “Not now.” I try to wiggle out of his arms. I want to grab my jacket before we go. It’s early April and it’s not that warm at night yet. When I don’t get anywhere, I glare up him. “Roman...” I don’t get another word out other than a very unladylike shriek as I’m thrown over his shoulder caveman style. I slap his ass, “Hey! I am NOT leaving without my jacket asshole. Put me down now!” Nothing. Not a word in rebuttal, no pause in his step. I will be furious if we leave behind my favorite jacket. It will take forever to find another one. I continue to yell when my jacket is suddenly shoved in my face. “Here.” I look up in surprise at Drex. He must have gone and grabbed it while I was throwing my tantrum. It didn’t surprise me that he knew which one was mine. I have certain tastes and I’m sure it smelt like me. “Thank you.” I grab it and hang onto it. I’ll put it on when my world is right side up again. Roman shoves his way outside and walks towards a familiar 1967 Chevy Impala. I missed this car. Sam and Dean have excellent taste. I’m set on my feet for all of two seconds before I’m being shoved into the back seat. “Hey! Easy! I’m coming on my own free will here.” Drex gets in the passenger side. Roman barely closes the driver door before he speeds out of the parking lot. “Put your seatbelt on. Now.” Drex demands. His voice is cold as ice. I get thrown sideways as we round a corner sharper than what we should. “I would if I could.” I bite out trying to latch my seat belt. “It’s kind of hard with Roman driving like a maniac. Do you even know where you are going?” I finally get a chance to stabilize myself long enough to hear my belt click. I’m holding onto the oh s**t handle, like my life depended on it. “Slow the f**k down Roman.” When I only get a growl for an answer. I snap. “Someone better answer me right now about where we are going, so help me I’ll throw myself out of this car.” I say coldly. I’ve never talked to them in this tone before. A lot has changed since I left them two years ago. Roman growls even louder and bone chilling. His wolf is very close to taking over right now. I know I’m pushing both of their buttons right now by threatening myself with bodily harm. But I need to know what I’m walking into. I was blind sided when I spotted Drex in the club. I need to decide quickly how I’m going to play this. Drex’s head snaps back to look at me. His eyes are flickering from his normal steel gray to the full black of his vampire side. His nostrils flair, like he is scenting me. When he speaks, I can see a hint of his fangs. s**t. They are both about to lose it. I need to tread very carefully. “We are going back to my place. You will explain why you faked your death, how the hell you are alive and didn’t bother to let us know. You will tell us E-V-E-R-Y little detail. I will chain you to the f*****g bed if I have too. Do I make myself clear?” His voice got deeper with each sentence. You could hear his sorrow, see his agony in his eyes. Fuck. Plan C. Tell them as much as I can with out telling them my true reason for going into hiding. I close my eyes and breathe in through my nose. Trying to calm my rising panic. I want to tell them everything. I desperately want to share this burden I’ve had on my shoulders. I feel tears threatening to spill down my cheeks. I can’t. I want to. But I can’t. I can’t take the risk. I can’t tell them until I know for sure that Wick is dead. Drex’s twin. Wick is an evil son of a b***h, of the worst kind. He’s a snack who is rotten to the core but can charm the pants off you until he eats you whole. You won’t even see it coming. None of us did. We didn’t know that he was jealous of Drex, who was only 3 minutes older. We had no idea that he was secretly building an army and gathering our deepest secrets to bury us with. He almost won. He thought he won. In an epic battle to the death, he somehow fooled us into thinking we won. Then he struck. I still have the scar in my abdomen, where he tried to gut me. He thinks I’m dead. My mates thought I was dead. Everyone in the Paranormal World thought that Gabriella Montgomery was dead. They mourned with their Kings over the loss of their Queen. Most mates don’t last more than a month after they have lost their other half. Yet somehow mine did. It was a mystery the elders couldn’t solve. I knew why they didn’t die, obviously because I am very much alive, but they didn’t know that. Only one person knew I was alive, and she died trying to protect my secret. Debra Collins was my designated lady’s maid when I was living with Roman and Drex back at the Menschheit Castle. I told them that I did not want nor to need a lady’s maid, but they insisted. Not only was she my lady’s maid but also my bodyguard in disguise. Which I found out later after an assassination attempt on my life. We clicked almost instantly. She became my best friend more than a guard or a maid. Behind closed doors she would teach me how to fight and where all the secret passages where in the castle. They ended up saving my life and she gave hers to protect me. I will forever be in her debt. I carry the burden of her death with me every day. It’s because of her that I’m alive. She taught me all I ever needed to survive. She got me a new identity, got me a place to live and she disappeared with me. Drex and Roman thought that she simply disappeared after my death was announced. When she actually was the one to smuggle me out of the castle. I feel the car come to an abrupt stop. I tighten my hold on the door as my body is jerked forward. I open up my eyes to see us parked in front of some very nice condos. I blow out the breath I didn’t realize I was holding. My lungs were screaming in relief for the much-needed air. It’s a coping mechanism to center my thoughts. I don’t even notice that I do it anymore. Roman and Drex get out of the car. I reach out to do the same but Roman beat me too it and yanks me out and over his shoulder again as he storms into the condo. This is becoming a thing, I see. I hate to admit it, but his caveman routine was always a big turn on, no matter how infuriating he was. I tamp that thought down with a f*****g vengeance. No. I don’t need them to scent my arousal right now. Their true natures are too close to the surface and it will turn into a f*****g orgy before I get a word in. I’m not against orgies, I am actually quite fond of them. However, now is soo not the time. Roman sits down in a huge black suede recliner, tugging me onto his lap. I don’t fight him. I’m tired and I missed them both dearly. I give in to what my instincts have been screaming at me to do since I saw Drex. I curl into his embrace and nuzzle his neck, knowing it will add his scent to mine. Roman’s wolf purrs in pleasure as he does the same to me. His hands rove up and down my back, up my sides. Covering every part of me. Not in a s****l way though. He was trying to reassure himself and his wolf that I was there. That I was real. “Enough.” Drex stands immobile in front of us. His hands are clenched at his sides. He wants to reach for me but he is stopping himself from doing so. Roman’s eyes turn a bright amber and start to glow as he looks at the Vampire King. His hands hold me tighter to him, not willing to let me go. He bares his canines in a warning. I know they would never hurt each other, well they wouldn’t do anything that causes lasting damage. I still regardless. I look at Drex, dead in the eye already knowing his answer. “What do you want to know?” “Everything. I want to know everything.”
