"You're bleeding." Estelle tried to reach up for Arthmael's chest, but he gently moved her hand away, knowing Evelyn was watching.
"I'm alright, really, just some bruises that I got from training today. My wolf is going to heal me in no time," he reassured her, avoiding everyone and walking to his room instead. Estelle always did this; making a big fuss out of little things that were not even important.
It was precisely when he was unbuttoning his black silk dress, leaned on the table, that Evelyn walked inside, closing the door behind her back and rushing to him.
"Evelyn, you can't be here—"
"Are you insane?" Evelyn asked in an angry voice, unconsciously stepping between his legs and checking out his wounds that were obviously more than some little bruises. "How can you let yourself get this hurt, how can you be this stupid?"
His breath got caught up in his throat. She looked all mad and worried that he had gotten injured and that hurt pretty good. "It's really not that serious—"
"Of course it is!" She cut him off, placing her palms in his naked chest, closing her eyes so she could focus on her healing powers as he kept observing her. She was so close. So so close, he just couldn't help but bury his head on her openly inviting neck, brushing his lips on her soft skin.
Evelyn shuddered, goosebumps erupting her body. She had been all caught up in her head, sick worried for him she hadn't realized she had walked into his room while he was half-naked and touched and caressed his skin like they were some sort of lovers. "Arthmael," she whispered, waiting it to be a protest but instead her hands kept stroking his hard muscles, his lips leaving small little kisses on her neck.
"I know, I know I shouldn't, I just can't stop needing you." Sliding one arm over her waist, he flushed her in his body even more, his lips moving slowly down on her collarbone and by now it was had become the hardest thing for Evelyn to not just give in, bury her fingers through his hair and let him do to her body everything forbidden she had dreamed he would do to her.
And Arthmael was so caught up in his own need and hunger now, she was sure he would. By God, that was what she craved the most but that would devastate him afterwards. That would break him and make him doubt his worth and his loyalty and she couldn't allow that.
"Arthmael, we have to stop," she whispered, trying to put some distance, but he groaned, grabbing her by her hips an grinding her to him and for a second her eyes rolled back in her head, pleasure almost taking over. "Arthmael!" Finally, she was able to get away from his hands, the hurt in his face devastating. "Arthmael, we can't do this."
"This is why you came here, to tell me we can't do this?" He was suddenly angry, and she realized with a start he still hadn't let the most important detail sink in in the moment. She was married to his father figure.
However, he was right about one thing, she shouldn't have come here. "No, I came here because I was worried, because you were bleeding and..." she trialed off. This time, sadness slipped into his eyes as he looked away.
"I know," he simply said. But that 'I know' held so much meaning to it. "I know we can't do this Evelyn, I know I can't do this, I know I can't have you..." He sighed, still not looking at her, still not looking at how much her heart was breaking. "I just don't know what to do..."
"Reject me."
Arthmael's gaze snapped at her as if she had said the most stupid, shocking, impossible thing there could be. As if she was insane for even considering that, when he had been the one to consider that himself at the beginning. Hell, he had even tried to reject her. Now, though? Now it made him angry that she even suggested that.
"What?" He had clearly heard the first time, he just didn't want to believe it.
"Reject me," Evelyn repeated, breaking her heart twice for the day. One rebellious tear escaped her eyes and she wiped it away stubbornly.
"No, I will not reject you." The way he said the words, his wolf had appeared right under the surface. "Ever. Did you hear me?"
"Arthmael."
"Did you hear me?" He pressed, grabbing her chin in his fingers so she would look at him but she still didn't met hear teary eyes with his. "Evelyn."
She inhaled deeply, trying to gather the courage to keep going. "You will or..."
"Or what?"
Finally, she met his gaze with her, two other tears running down her face and meeting down on her chin. "I..." she tried her very very best for her voice not to crack, and for her heart not to crack too. "I, Evelyn Averell, Princess and Heiress of the elf-throne, rej—" He cut her off with a harsh kiss, pinning her on the closest wall while invading her mouth, making her lips all swollen, but even when his lungs couldn't take it anymore he decided that kissing her punishingly was much better than oxygen.
Evelyn tried, God alone knew how much she tried fighting it, she just couldn't. Not anymore.
Giving in, she ran her hands through his hair, letting him explore her mouth and suck her lips and ran his hands through her body that was already surrendered and awaken to every single one of his touches.
"You want to reject me?" Arthmael finally spoke after he broke the kiss, their lips so near they were taking in each other's breaths. "You don't want to feel this anymore, you don't want to feel me anymore?" Once again, he kissed her lips, this time much gently. That was obviously a pleading kiss, one that begged her not to say the god forsaken words that would destroy his whole life more than it was already destroyed. "This." He kissed her again and again. "You don't want this anymore?"
"You don't understand." Silent tears flowed down her face freely. "I can't see you like this anymore. You're hurting, I'm hurting you. All I do is hurt people. You were happy when I wasn't here. If breaking the bond means you being happy again then so be it. If you not wanting me anymore puts you finally at peace, then so be it."
Shock invaded Arthmael's face, before he brushed his lips on her hair, kissing the top of her head as he wrapped his arms around her in a loving hug. "You're the one who doesn't understand, Evelyn. Do you think it's only the bond? Do you think I haven't already..." He stopped at seeing her teary eyes widen. "You don't hurt people, Evelyn, they hurt you. The whole goddamn time." Sighing, he moved the hair from her face. "You rejecting me wouldn't put me at peace, it is too late for that now. It would only make me more miserable. So don't try again, because I won't accept your rejection. I don't care if it's bloody selfish, or shameful, I never will."
Closing her eyes, Evelyn leaned her face on his naked already healed chest. He smelt so good, she wanted to be there forever. "Arthmael."
"Never, Evelyn, so go now and never try rejecting me ever again."
