*** In the twenty two years of her life, Brianna had never stood in the same room with her mother for longer than two minutes. They’d only ever seen each other thrice, and one of those times was when Ophelia had given birth to her. Her father had taken her away then, for fear that it would compromise her position with the Royal family. And now they were in the same room together, both of them sitting awkwardly and facing each other. Ophelia wore a long, navy blue dress with a slit on the side. The crown she wore was one which she’d fashioned herself, wrought gold with an amethyst gem at the helm. Her eyes never left Brianna, but the latter couldn’t exactly meet her gaze.
