“It’s a threat,” Nero snapped, his voice and temper rising in equal measure. “She’s trying to scare you into quitting.”
Adaria continued to stare at the message in blank disbelief. She felt hollow, like someone had taken a large chunk of her and cast it aside. Even with the Morningstar in her hands, it did nothing to remove this feeling of dread.
Hitherto, she had seen Ophelia as a threat. A dangerous one, but a threat nonetheless. Now, with the message written clearly on the ground, a message of death, she saw her for what she truly was: the enemy.
A part of her couldn’t help but think back to the many years she’d spent with Ophelia, practically being raised by her even more than her parents had. And yet, here she was, clearly stating that she would kill her.
