The room was unusually cold. The curtains were dangling off the hook on the wall and it was getting really dark.
She sat still at the corner of the room with her legs curled up and a stale bread in hand as she scraped the dried candle wax off the wooden table. She soon stood up and walked up to the window. The curtains were on the floor and the window was wide open.
One could hear the sounds of frogs from the pond just beside the window.
“Damn frogs” Freya whispered bending over to pick the curtains.
“There you go” she softly said to her self while fixing the curtain. Soon enough she fixed the curtain and heaved a sigh of relief before shutting the window close.
Walking back to the table, she picked up a fresh candle.. placing them on the same spot as the other one that had ran out.
She hummed softly as she munched on the bread while watching the fire turn blue.
A soft knock came in. She paused in between bites, wondering who might be at the door that late.
She walks over to the door, and peeped through the key hole. A smile formed on her lips as she opened the door in haste.
“Tobias” she grinned throwing herself at the young man outside the door.
he smiled back wrapping his arm round her waist even though he could not wrap it round cause of the obvious issue.
“Come in” she beckoned and waited to shut the door behind him.
“Stale bread again?” Tobias pointed at the table shaking his head in dissatisfaction.
“I told you to get something from my cousin Anytime and I’ll pay her when I come visiting” he argued pushing the bread down from the table
“You know, people here talk alot. It’s enough they think I killed Casper . I don’t want any thing from for free and beside the bread isn’t so bad” she defended.
“I am not going to argue with you. Here” he pulled out some money from his pocket and a bar of chocolate.
“Chocolate!” Freya squealed almost moved to tears. The room was silent and it was awkward.
“You know I still hear whispers that I killed Casper. Hell! Someone even said as soon as I put to bed that my baby will be taken away from me” she stated sniffing with her hand over her mouth
“It doesn’t matter what they think. You and I know Casper was a d**k and there was no way he could have been a good father. And no one is taking your baby away from you” Tobias assured rubbing her back. She nodded and forced a chuckle out before looking up at him.
“It was an accident that he drowned. Don’t let their small talks pull you down with him alright?”
“Thank you” she muttered
“I was thinking you will show up tomorrow and not today! You didn’t even go home from work. I bet Soren will be expecting you” she added
“She is over there, at work with me” he stated
“They allowed you bring in your wife?” Freya asked in awe.
“Well, it comes with the promotion. And she just moved in two nights ago. And she gets paid too” he explained.
“Paid for being your wife?” Freya asked, her lips slightly parted.
“Yeah! And she gets to work if she wants to” he added.
“Woah… that’s huge” she mouthed, mouth full of chocolate.
“I wanted to surprise you with this visit” he scratched his neck nervously
“You surprised me for a fact” she chuckled biting into the chocolate.
“Soren is so lucky to have a partner like you” she added
“And what about the job you said you would help me look?” she stated almost immediately like she had been dying to get that out
“No vacancy.. but trust me I have better news” Tobias stated with a wide smile
“Shoot” she smiled with her eyes widened
“I was told the prime minister is looking for a detailed painter. Don’t worry, I recommended you to someone close to him. So higher chances of you getting the job” he stated and her eyes widened in excitement.
“Don’t s**t me right now” Freya stood up abruptly in awe.
“I swear Frey. We just have to hope he considers you. I’ll break you out of here no matter what it costs me” Tobias responded happily.
“It has to be true Tobias. I’d do anything for my baby” Freya broke down in tears before reaching out for a hug.
“You are suddenly such a hugger” he smiled.
“Should I fix Lipton for you? You must be really cold”
“Yeah. A cup of hot Lipton will do” he responded lying flat on the couch as he watched her make way to what she called her coffee table at the far end of the room.
“Thought of a name yet?” Freya asked as she walked back to him with a hot mug of Lipton.
“Was thinking of Kaia or Astrid” she responded sitting opposite Tobias
“Your middle name?” Tobias smiled sipping from the mug
“Yeah. Kaia” she smiled back at him taking her last bite from the chocolate
“How sure are you that it’s a girl” he asked.
“I just feel it in my bones” she laughed.
“Hopefully Kaia will be born at the prime minister’s villa” Tobias joked
“You think the prime minister might allow me in his home with the whole allegations and pregnancy?” She asked
“Not if you tell them” he raised his brows, dragging a sip from the cup.
“I mean, you don’t even look pregnant” he added.
“And again…” he continued, in between sips,
“He doesn’t really care about so many things. I don’t know why he needs a detailed painter but one thing I know is it’s not that serious for you to be scared about being pregnant. But you don’t have to let them know for now, at least let’s not ruin chances” he finished.
“It’s not about that… it’s about Casper’s death” she queried
“Well, I never mentioned it, not even the pregnancy. Besides we’ll make sure no one knows when you leave here. Just trust me” he assured again
“Is he a nice person up close?” She asked curiously
“Uhhh.. you know, you never really know these politicians. Cause every move for them is always a strategy. Like a political stunt. But so far, he is nice with us” he gestured with his hands
“And the cult allegations? What do you think about them” she questioned inquisitively
“I don’t know about that but I’ve seen weird convoys pull up. But ey! I don’t go poking my nose” he laughed and she joined
“Hmmm! Politicians for you” she chipped in rubbing her legs.
“But what about your routine check up with the police. When last did they check in” he asked
“I don’t care about those checkups Tobias. They’ve not been here this week. They are all just waiting for Kaia to be born” she replied
“Yeah I know. But I still can’t believe they think you are capable of murder. And your blood being on the boat? That is just crazy. But we will get to the root of this I promise. You won’t spend one night in jail” Tobias assured and Freya nodded, rubbing her laps.
“I’m glad at least one person believes me” she sighed.
“Two, Infact” he corrected, she furrowed her brows.
“Soren believes you too” he added as she didn’t quite catch on.
She pouted,
“Be right back. I need to pee” she added walking away.

She pulled down her skirt as soon as she got into the bathroom. The injury just above her thigh was bleeding again. It was so itchy too as she tried to caress it gently.
“s**t” she muttered reaching out for an ointment.
I still can’t believe they think you are capable of murder she heard Tobias’s voice over and over again in her head.
“Ughhh! You just made my night by showing up” Freya stated walking back into the living area to meet Tobias.
“You my little baby” he chuckled.
“We’ve been sticking out for each other for over twenty two years” he added
“Right from middle school” she jeered, wrapping the chocolate nylon before tossing it at the corner of the room.
“Guess what” Tobias stated dropping the mug beside the candle
“You know I suck at that” she rolled her eyes with a grin
“Soren and I want to consider adoption. But we are still contemplating though”
“Shut up!!” Freya widened her eyes with her palm over her mouth in shock as she scooted close for a hug
“Here we go again! More hugs” Tobias laughed.
