Ava Cleo and I had spent the entire morning shopping. For the first time since she had joined the pack, I had managed to drag her into the world of normal teenage-girl things—clothes, makeup, hair accessories, and enough bags to make my mother question whether we had actually gone shopping or robbed a department store. By the time we loaded everything into the back of my Jeep, my feet were aching, my wallet was considerably lighter, and somehow, I was still smiling.
