Chapter 7 - The Seal

𝐀𝐫𝐣𝐮𝐧𝐚 𝐏𝐎𝐕 "Are you insane, Arjuna?!" Ravynn's voice struck through the space like lightning. Sharp. Furious. Terrified. "You could have gotten yourself killed." A pause. Then his voice lowered, colder than before. "You have no idea what she is capable of." I did not answer. I stood in silence, jaw clenched, fists balled tightly at my sides. The force of being dragged back through the veil still burned beneath my skin. Every vein in my body pulsed with pain. Not ordinary pain. This was deeper. Older. As though the veil itself had clawed through me before releasing its grip. My breathing was uneven, but I refused to show weakness. Not in front of him. Not when Ravynn already looked at me as though I had lost my mind. The chamber around us trembled faintly. Silver light flickered across the marble floor, broken and unstable. The air still carried the sharp scent of torn energy, like the world itself had been split open and stitched back together too quickly. Ravynn stood a few steps away from me. Silver hair unbound. Eyes cold. Expression unreadable. But I knew him too well. Beneath all that control, beneath the royal stillness he wore like armor, there was fear. Real fear. And that unsettled me more than his anger. "She is human," I said at last, my voice rough. Ravynn's gaze sharpened. "No," he said. One word. Quiet. Certain. I stilled. "What did you say?" Ravynn took one slow step toward me. "She is not just human." The words settled between us like a blade. For a moment, even the air stopped moving. I stared at him. My pulse, already unsteady, struck harder against my ribs. "What do you know?" Ravynn did not answer immediately. Instead, his eyes shifted to the space behind me, toward the faint c***k of silver light still hovering in the air. The remnant of the passage. The place where I had crossed. The place where she had felt me. Where her energy had answered mine. Where her crystal had shattered. My fists tightened. "Ravynn." His gaze returned to me. There was something ancient in his expression now. Something I had never seen before. Not anger. Not warning. Recognition. And for the first time that night, his voice lost its edge. "Tell me exactly what happened." I looked away. The memory struck me with such force that I nearly closed my eyes. Her room. The moonlight. Her fear. Her pulse trembling through the connection. Her voice asking what I was doing to her. And the moonstone. That impossible blue light. "It was the stone," I said quietly. Ravynn went completely still. "What stone?" I turned back to him. "Moonstone. Blue sheen. Around her wrist." A flicker crossed his face. Too fast for anyone else to notice. But I saw it. Ravynn knew something. "Her crystal reacted to me," I continued. "It amplified the connection." "No," Ravynn said. His voice had changed. Lower. Darker. "It did not amplify you." My brows drew together. "Then what did it amplify?" Ravynn looked at me, and for once, the silence between us felt heavier than his words. "Her." 𝐑𝐚𝐯𝐲𝐧𝐧 𝐏𝐎𝐕 "Then what did it amplify?" Arjuna asked. I looked at him, and for once, the silence between us felt heavier than any answer I could give. A sigh left me. Slow. Heavy. Tired in a way I had not allowed myself to feel for centuries. "Her." Arjuna's expression shifted. Confusion first. Then disbelief. Then something darker. As though the answer offended him. As though he could not accept that the force that shattered the moonstone had not come from him. It had come from her. "Excuse me?" he said, voice low. I held his gaze. "You heard me." His jaw tightened. I could see the argument forming behind his eyes. The refusal. The pride. The desperate need to believe he had caused it all. Arjuna had always been powerful. Too powerful for his own patience. But tonight, he had touched something he did not understand. "The moonstone did not break because of your energy alone," I said. His eyes narrowed. "It reacted to you, yes. You triggered the thread. You opened the connection." I paused. The memory of that surge still crawled beneath my skin. Blue light. A human aura trembling beneath the full moon. A sealed force answering from somewhere deep within her. "But the rest..." I continued, my voice lowering, "was her." Arjuna said nothing. For once, he listened. "The moonstone amplified what was already inside her. Her energy. Her aura. Her hidden current." I turned slightly, staring at the torn remnants of the passage still flickering in the air. "It was never meant to hold that much power." The c***k of silver light pulsed once. Weak. Unstable. Then faded. "Blue sheen moonstone carries feminine energy," I said. "Dreams. Intuition. Emotional current. It responds to the unseen parts of the soul." Arjuna's expression hardened, but he did not interrupt. "Tonight was a full moon," I continued. "The veil was already thin. Her emotions were unstable. Your presence crossed into her space, and she responded before she understood what she was doing." His fists clenched. "She was afraid." "Yes," I said. His eyes flashed. "Then why did it grow stronger?" I looked back at him. "Because fear does not always close power, Arjuna." The chamber fell silent again. I let the words settle before I continued. "Sometimes, fear opens what grief has spent years trying to bury." Something flickered across his face. Not anger this time. Understanding. Small. Unwanted. But there. "Her energy amplified the moonstone," I said quietly. "Not the other way around." Arjuna looked away. For the first time since I had dragged him back through the veil, he looked shaken. Good. He should be. "What is she?" he asked. The question came softer than I expected. I did not answer immediately. Because the truth was far worse than ignorance. I did not know. And that terrified me. At last, I said, "That is exactly what we need to find out." Arjuna said nothing. For once, there was no argument. No arrogance. No reckless answer. Only silence. Then he turned away. A moment later, his presence vanished from the chamber. I stood still long after Arjuna had vanished. The chamber thrummed with fading threads of emotion, guilt, fear, longing. But none of it was mine. What I felt was different. Deeper. Recognition. Her aura. It wasn’t just powerful. It was... familiar. The strength beneath her softness. The power buried inside her fatigue. The defiance unsharpened by rage. The silence that spoke in frequencies no ordinary realm could decode. And it stirred something he wasn't ready to face. Not instinct. Not duty. Memory. Ancient. Buried. Hidden not only from the Elders, but from myself. My hand trembled as I reached into the inner fold of my cloak. My fingers brushed soft velvet, a black pouch, sealed for over two hundred years. I pulled it out slowly, unfastened the string. Inside... a rough, dark stone. Its jagged edges untouched by time. Its surface shimmered with golden veins when met by aura-light. Nuummite. The Stone of Rebirth. The Heirloom of the Forgotten Line. And it was glowing.
