Chapter 8: KiaraKiara stood on the balcony, leaning forward enough to see the parking lot where Geri was just pulling away. She watched until the vehicle was out of sight, then turned her gaze toward her new plant in the corner. It was enormous. If she hadn’t seen Geri carry it up the stairs with her own eyes, she’d never had believed it. And she didn’t even break a sweat. The bag of bird seed on the ground under the feeder commanded her attention next. That had been challenge enough. Geri had talked her into buying a twenty-five pound bag. More economical than those little bags, she’d insisted.
