Chapter 2 : The Divine Response

709 Words
I opened my eyes and found myself floating in an empty emptiness. Feeling my weight no longer heavy. The space felt strange. It was filled with consuming darkness. I was confused by all this, then suddenly a bright burning light appeared and engulfed the darkness. I felt frozen in time and the universe answered me not with death, but with a transformation. I was engulfed in the light, and when I opened my eyes again, I found myself in a hospital room. The air smelled of disinfectant. I stared at my hands and they seemed the same apart from the drip in my hand, trying to check my body for any other changes but I couldn't see any apart from the gauze wrapped around my head. I feel different and something tells me I have changed but I can't pin point where I have changed or how I changed. A small boy came rushing in, placing a plastic bag on the side table, he came closer to the bed side, " Big tiger! Big T! you are awake. How are you?" I stare at the little boy who looks just like my younger brother when he was 9 years old. Could it be? I wondered. " Big T can you hear me?" The little boy's voice breaks through my thoughts. Pointing to the water besides me and gesturing to my mouth. He understands me and reaches out to pick the glass of water and careful placing a straw inside and then giving it to me . Taking in a deep breath after I finished sipping the water, I finally responded, to him, " Hey little tiger,I am okay just a slight headache, what happened? " I asked. He looks around as if afraid someone will hear, then he gets closer to me and whispers , " Mum plans to marry an underground business man but when you refused she locked you up for 3 days and night and when I came looking for you, you had passed out and I called 911, that's how you ended up in the hospital." I was shocked in my mind this whole event took place when I was 16 years old, did I go back? Pushing this thought aside I asked, "where's mum right now?" He responds with a mocking tone, " With her new husband up in the villa in Sun city. This confirmed my thoughts, I had gone back in time. This was a mystery to me but I knew I had to make this different from before. I was given a second chance and I vowed not to waste it. My body is unchanged, but my spirit now holds something different I can feel it. I rested up seeing as to I had a headache and my little T side by my side. A kind-hearted nurse always brought in an extra plate for him knowing. She felt pity for us. After two days I was discharged. Mum had paid the hospital bill but she never set foot in the hospital room. She only left a message for us to follow her to Sun city once I was discharged and some cash for the bus fare. I was discharged in the evening and seeing it was almost nightfall we first decided to go back to our shack home in Angel city then travel early the following day. The trip would require us to take an 8 hour ride to arrive in Sun city. Our home was a few blocks away from the hospital. On the way Chris turned and asked me, " Big T why didn't mum come to see us?" His eyes were eager but I couldn't tell him the truth, he was still so young, " She was probably busy ,don't worry about it" He nodded in understanding wearing his beautiful charming smile. The house was now empty and desolate. Rodents run free. My brother stepped out to look for firewood seeing as it was almost dark. I lay on the mat placed on the cold wood floor in the house we once called home but now only a shell. At the corner I saw my yellow dress and the memories flooded in hitting me: It was one sunny afternoon....
