I was around 2 miles down this dirt road when I saw a little house with the lights on. “Yes, hopefully they are nice and I can borrow a phone and a charger.” Right before I knock on the door, a tall handsome man answers. He looks like he's in his 40s , he’s very built and has a tattoo of a symbol on his arm. “Hi, sorry to bother you. My name is Elina, I’m a little lost and I seemed to have no service and my phone is dying. Could I borrow yours to get an uber back to town?” I say, freaking out that he doesn’t murder me. “Sure!” He smiles. “Would you like to come in or stand outside?” I could see he was trying to help me stay comfortable. “I’ll come inside, it is a bit chilly out here.” “My phone is on the table. I will make you some warm tea. I just put some on the stove” he politely stepped aside as I walked in. He brought me a cup of tea. “My name is Jonah by the way.” I smiled at him as I took a sip. “Are you done using the phone I just have to make a call real quick to see where my ma-wife is?” “Yes thank you so much and thank you for the tea. It’s delicious” as it really was, it tasted like liquid gold, easily the best tea I’ve ever tasted. I watched him as he disappeared into the other room. When he came back out, he looked at me like he was shocked I was still there. “I’m sorry the Uber said it would be like an hour and a half to get here, I can wait at the end of the road if you’d like?” I really didn’t want to stand out in the cold, but I also didn’t want to over stay my welcome. “Nonsense, you’re fine right here. My wife should be home soon. If your Uber hasn’t arrived, we can gladly take you home if you’d like?” He was definitely a sweetheart but there was something off about him I couldn’t figure out, but not something I was afraid of. “Thank you , but you’ve already done enough. I wouldn’t want to oppose on your night!” Taking another drink of my tea. “It’ll be our pleasure we don’t get many outsi-visitors here!” Taking a drink of his tea. “So tell me about yourself? If you don’t mind at least?” “Well I’m a soon to be grad student, I’ll be graduating right before my 22nd in a couple months”, not looking at him but checking my phone. Ethan didn’t send a text or even called stupid asshole and he probably went back to the restaurant. “What are you going to school for?” “Management and leadership.” Now looking up at him. His eyes were like a cloud. Have they been like this? All a sudden, they were back to normal. “That is a wonderful degree. Where I come from, we value female leaders. I’m glad to see it’s becoming popular. We need more of it!” Alright, it’s official, I like this man! Just as I was about to speak, the door swung open. A man just flew in looking around and we locked eyes and I heard a whisper from his breath “mate”.
