Shame filled me and I quickly looked away. I couldn’t believe Arkin had to look at my face. What must he be thinking? He must surely feel disgusted. He might even be regretting summoning me here. I shouldn’t have come. I should’ve made up some reason not to show my face to him. Arkin might even be regretting burning my veil because now I had nothing to cover my face with. I should get out of here as soon as possible to save him from further discomfort. “Your Majesty, I’ve finished the test,” I said, doing my best to avoid his gaze. If he only knew how ashamed I was, then mayhap he would take back his decree which forbade me from wearing a veil in his presence. “Mayhap you should take some time to review it,” he suggested.
