The right thing to do was nod, close the door to the blue suite, and heave a sigh of relief at another day’s performance carried off without a disaster, so that’s what she did. But it was hard. Sometimes, the irrational fear that Jack—and her father, and the entire house—would disappear if she looked away for even a moment mounted as she roamed the blue suite, touching furniture and hoping it stayed solid. Nothing good ever stayed, and…well, she had to admit she liked it here. She liked it a lot. l
