Chapter 2

—Carol— Soulmate… That was the only thing I could think of..I could feel… I couldn’t explain the feeling, but it was there, just tugging at me. Then finally, I forced myself to calm down, letting out a breath. I didn’t know this man…whatever this feeling was…well, it wasn’t real. Finally, I forced my legs to move, taking a step into the room and shutting the door behind me. I forced myself to meet his green eyes again…”hi!! I’m Dr Carol Sinclair and I’ll be attending to you today..” I forced a smile and took a seat across from him. He sat comfortably on his chair, his legs crossed. He had thick black hair and a sharp jawline, his figure was like something drawn out of the movies. Gods…he was gorgeous… “So…Mr Cassien Kristof…can I know more about you?” I asked carefully. He didn’t respond or even acknowledge my question. His face barely changed and his eyes didn’t move one inch from mine. “Do you have any traumatic pasts…any childhood memories that you’d like to share, or maybe even recent ones…” I continued, forcing my tone to be neutral. And again…no answer or response from him whatsoever. “Mr. Cassien…if you want me to help you…you need to take this more seriously.” My tone was firm now. Then slowly he shifted back from his chair and stood up. What? What is really wrong with this man? Then he began to walk around the room, checking out pictures, some toys we use for other patients' treatment.. “Mr. Cassien, if you won’t cooperate..then, I have no choice but to terminate this session, now!” That was it. If he didn’t respond, I would be walking out now… I let a second pass, he continued to play with toys or whatever the hell he was doing… Then two, three, four…five. That was it. I quickly pushed off my chair and turned to leave before his cold voice stopped me. “Are you a therapist…?” It was a simple and harmless question. It really was. But the way he said it…, it felt nothing but weird. I turned back to him slowly, a small smile now on his lips. “I’m more of a psychologist..but, therapist is good” “Fantastic. So…you like to read people's minds or something…” I almost laughed. Read people’s minds? What am I, a magician? “No…I help people like you…discover and guide them through their mental trauma..” “People like me?” He almost laughed. The wider his smile got the scarier he looked. “So you think I’m a patient?” “Well, you paid us for a booking and you showed up…so that checks that you need mental help. And also, the first minute of our conversation, check out three attributes of yourself..” “Wow. You’re a sharp one, huh?” His eyes lit up with interest as he walked back to his seat slowly. “Well then, enlighten me..” “Well, you’re insecure of yourself, you have bad childhood experiences that make you believe if you deny your truth that it saves you the pain…but you’re wrong. And lastly..” I took a pause now, watching his smile fade immediately. “You’re a bit of a man child. You want someone to tell you, you look old or maybe even kiss your forehead..but no one will because you somehow drive all the women in your life away.” “Enough!” His voice tore through the room like a blade. My heart almost left my soul.. Did I take a step too far? I think I did… His records showed he was easily triggered and aggressive… “You think you know me, huh? You think I’m an open book..” he stood up now, slamming his fists on the table between us, the force was enough to shake the walls. I stayed rooted to my chair, my heart pounding much faster now. “Well, Ms. Carol, I’m sorry to burst your bubble, but you don’t know me. No one does!!” And there it was again..the insecurity, and the void deep in him, maybe a void left by a hateful mother or father, or both. Well, of course I couldn’t tell him that now. Who knows how he could react? I expected him to continue his spiral, but instead, he stopped. He let himself breath then finally sat down. “Sorry, for my outrage…let’s start again, shall we?” That sick smile of his was back again. I forced myself to remain calm. “Yes, that’ll be nice.” “So, I’m Cassien Kristof…and I’m like nobody you’ve ever met before…” “In what way?” I asked sharply. “Well…let’s say..I’m stronger, faster and much much..” his gaze locked on me now. “…dangerous.” My body tensed up instantly. No. I wasn’t going to be intimidated. “Dangerous in what way? You get in a lot of fights… maybe, The rich kid kind of power and dangerous, you mean?” He chuckled loudly, not even holding back his amusement. “Fights? What am I? A teenager…” “Well, some male adults are easily triggered into fights, maybe at bars…it’s a way of running away from their demons..” “Fights?..well, you may be right. But in my type of fights, my opponent never gets back up.” And then, his eyes flashed gold… No!!! My heart sank…that wasn’t normal. That couldn’t be. And then it hit me.. the news from earlier. That man that said he saw beasts among us… Was he telling the truth? This man…was he one of them? Slowly, almost instinctively, my hands began to reach for my phone. “What are you?..” I asked sharply. His grin widened as he stood up slowly. “I’m just a patient needing help, aren’t I?” “..no, no,no…you’re not normal. You’re a monster!” My voice shot out, louder than I wanted. He only smiled, he didn’t even deny it. In fact, it was like he acknowledged it. My heart was pounding so loudly, I swear it could break right through my chest. All my life…I’ve never felt this scared. “Stay away from me…” my hands reached my phone, slowly pulling it out from my pocket. I didn’t even know who I wanted to call. The cops? Adeline? I didn’t know..I just knew I couldn’t be here alone with this freak. Before my hands could even move to dial a number, he was in front of me. In a flash. My breath hitched as he pressed my back to the chair. Then his hands closed around my wrists, dropping my phone to the floor. “Careful, Carol..” his voice was low and dark. “You’re about to make a grave mistake…” His eyes turned full yellow now, animal-like eyes… And then I felt it… like a burning sensation coursing through me. It was like what I felt earlier…but times ten of it. What the hell was I feeling?? He pulled away quickly, his expression changed. Like he was in shock. He was feeling it too… “AHHH!!” A loud scream tore through the air from the hall ways. Instincts kicked in and I pushed myself off the chair and to the door. But before I could open it, I felt a small gush of the window and turned to Cassien. He was…gone.
