Chapter 3

882 Words
It was evening already. Roman was still going over some business projects proposal. He needed to be done with them and be able to give feedbacks to the foreign investors. He was already overworked, but had to keep going till he finished. He looked at his time, it was 7pm already. Gosh! he had to leave soon. Just few things and he'd be through. His phone rang, it was Alice. She was his fiancee. s**t! He had forgotten they were supposed to have dinner tonight. It was past the time they had made for reservation. He knows how angry she'd get, he'd just have to reschedule. "Hi handsome, seems you've forgotten about dinner tonight?" "Hey Alice, I'm sorry... there's been so much to do in the office lately. We can reschedule ok? I'll get my secretary to book somewhere else, then I'll come pick you up in 15 minutes... sounds good?" "Good good Roman...don't be late..Alice hates waiting" she replied him with a wicked sneer and immediately hung up. Damn! He really hated this relationship. He felt congested and really needed space, but unfortunately for him, he couldn't get what he want. He'd been set to marry Alice for a long time by both of their families. Alice Brews also came from not just a wealthy family, but also a very influential one. Alice's father had helped Roman's family business because it was on the verge of falling and they were deep in debt, so he had used his power and money to help the Garchews. Just like Alice, Roman was the only child of his parents, so the two families had decided for a marriage between their children to strengthen their relationship. Roman didn't love Alice, he never did. Having to deal with her most of the time made him wish for another life. He had first met Alice when he'd came back from studying overseas at a dinner party her family had hosted. He was attracted to her at first. He loved her fiery spirit and how sexy and seductive she could be, but overtime he got exhausted with her vanity, blackmail and manipulations. He needed peace, and peace wasn't what Alice was. What everyone didn't know was Roman had been building a private empire for a very long time. He had forseen this whole drama between the two families and had vowed he'd shock them all one day. He'd repay his family debt to the Brews and then dispose of Alice. He just needed more time and patience, and the time will be right. He was already done with looking at the projects proposal and already clearing up.. There was a knock on his door. It should be his P.A., the door opened and it was his secretary. He was surprised she was still around. He stopped what he was doing and was looking at her as she walked in. "Hello sir, I... I'm about to leave, i..I was wondering if you need me for anything else?" Roman wondered why she always stuttered whenever she spoke to him. She was a strange woman to him. He had remembered six months ago when he had told her he didn't want to see her, but she hadn't given up, she had kept coming back, he had no other choice but to let her be. She was alright. She worked well. Weirdly, she lingered in his thoughts most times it really annoyed him. The woman annoyed and irritated him most of the time, but surprisingly other times he found her amusing. She had made him chuckle a certain time, he was very surprised. There was something about her he found oddly satisfying and refreshing. She was really pretty too. Sometimes he felt like he'd encountered her somewhere, like a déjà vu kinda experience, but he wasn't sure. Anyways he had nothing to do with her. She was a peasant and he could never have anything to do with them. "I need you to book a 9pm dinner reservation for me at the Chevalier's" he told her very harshly "Yessir...is that all?" "Yeah". She took out her iPad and began booking the reservation. Roman notices she's still in his office and thinks to himself if she's alright. "Why are you still here?" "I'm making the dinner reservation" "In my office?" He looks at her like she's really dense "Oh...I'll leave, sorry sir" she walks out. Emily comes back in 15 minutes to let him know, she was through and was going home. He was already leaving too. So they get into the elevator together, a sick tightening silence ensuing between the both of them. It was like their souls was communicating, even though their physical was silent. They both exit at the ground floor. His car wasn't in the garage, it was outside, so he follows Emily out of the building. She sees Roman's P A and another man standing by a silver shiny Maserati. The other man standing with Roman's PA, looks very familiar. Emily is trying to remember where she'd seen him before. Immediately as if he could read minds, he turns in her direction and looks at her weirdly too. Emily suddenly takes a sharp breath of shock. Now she remembers where she had met him. He was Alfie ....!
