Chapter 2

990 Words
Maya POV When I awoke, I was surrounded by bright blinding lights. I took a while for my eyes to adjust for me to realize I was in the hospital. When I looked down, I noticed my arm was in a sling, and I had a full leg cast. My body ached all over, and everytime I tried to move I would feel a sharp radiating pain travelling throughout my body. Man, I was just all f****d up. In the past, Kimberly had always left me with a few bruises here and there, but this time she really went to the extreme. It was going to take a while for me to heal. I just sighed and thanked God I was still alive. All of a sudden, I heard a loud commotion coming from the hallway. "Maya! Maya! Where are you? Where's my daughter at?!" I recognized that voice anywhere. My mother. Not even a second later, my mom came bursting into my room. "Aye dios mio!(oh my God) My baby, what happened to you?' I looked at my mother, watching as tears welled up in her eyes from looking at me. She immediately rushed over to me, placing a chair right at my bedside. Her hands felt soft and cool to the touch. I looked over at my mother with worry in her eyes. I watched as she furrowed her brows, causing the wrinkles on her forehead to deepen. Her bright blue eyes were looking over me filled with worry. "Mom, I'm okay. I promise." I tried to force a smile on my face but it just hurt too much. I winced a little at the pain I felt. "You know it's not nice to lie to your mother. Now tell me what happened to you? Who did this to you?" I hesitated for a moment, wondering if I should tell my mother the truth. In the past, when I would come home with bruises and such, I would just tell her that I got hurt playing sports at school. I'm not sure if she ever really believed me, but it was enough to get her off my back and not ask any questions. This time, my back was against the wall and I had no choice but to tell her. "Maya, you have to tell me what happened. I know this didn't happen by playing sports. If someone did this to you, I wanna know who and why." I looked away from my mother and down at my hands. At that moment, I busted out crying. The type of cry that just racks your whole body causing it to shake. I ignored the pain as my mother hugged me, rubbing my back as she tried to console me. I think we stood like that for a few minutes before being interrupted by the sound of someone clearing their throat at the door. I looked up to find a brunet-haired lady at the door. She was about 5'7 with brown hair that reached to the middle of her back. She had olive-colored skin that paired well with her stormy gray eyes. She was wearing a pair of black crocs with bright blue scrubs and a long white lab coat. It was safe to assume that she was the doctor. She spoke in a soft but gravitating tone. "I'm sorry to interrupt, I'm Dr. Andrews. I just wanted to come in and check up on you. How are you feeling? "How is she feeling? Look at her! For the lack of a better term, excuse my French but she is f****d up." I looked at my mother wide-eyed. I can't believe my mother spoke to a doctor like that. I mean, technically, she isn't wrong, but she could have explained it better. I tried my best to speak. "I-I'm doing better. Pain." "Do you still feel a lot of pain?" asked the doctor. I nodded my head yes in response. Also, with my good arm, I pointed to the jug of water that sat on the table. My mother got up and poured me a glass. She brought the straw to my lips and I slowly took a sip. The cold water felt great against my dry mouth. "Thanks mom." Dr. Andrews spoke. "I'll have the nurses come in and push some more morphine for the pain. Now I just wanted to go over a few things with you and your mother." I watched as she put up some pictures of my x-rays on the light box. I'm not an expert on reading x-rays but I can say I saw a lot of broken bones. "As you can see here, you have quite a few broken bones and fractures. Your leg should be healed in about six to eight weeks, give or take, as well as your arm. You have 3 fractured ribs and a broken nose. I 'll write a prescription for some pain medication, but for now you just need to get plenty of rest and let your body heal." I didn't hear anything the doctor said as I just kept staring at the board, looking at the damage Kimberly did. She has to pay. "Maya, are you listening to what the doctor is telling you?" My mom snapped me out of my daze. "Huh? Yea I'm listening. Plenty of rest right doctor?" "Yes, plenty of rest. We'll keep you here for a little longer to monitor you, but you should be good to go home either tonight or tomorrow morning. Do you have any questions?" "How did I get to the hospital?" I looked at Dr. Andrews' face looking for some answers. I had hoped the mystery guy had brought me and left some info like his name. I watched as pity washed over her face. "You were found lying on the ground outside. There was no one around with you, and you were unconscious. I'm sorry."
