We ran together under the moonlight without problems. No one challenged me; there were no fights. As the night went on, people separated from the group, and soon it was just Pepper and me. I let Letho take control, and we frolicked through the woods.
The pack was in the back of my mind, like a third consciousness. I could feel their joy, and knew that there weren’t any problems, even when I wasn’t around.
Pepper and I settled down in a spot underneath some pines to sleep for the night. Rest came easy knowing the pack was safe.
