The sliding door opened, and sandals were on the mat in front of it. I hobbled over there with my cane and tried them on. Huh. Perfect fit. Stepping onto the flagstone patio, a cool fall breeze washed over my freshly cleaned skin. The scent of pine and crushed leaves filled my nose, along with pollen from a nearby lilac bush. Bees buzzed as they bumbled around the bush collecting pollen. In front of me, a set of wrought-iron chairs surrounded a matching table. Beyond the seating was a wall of pine trees, followed by the Sierra mountains. A looming greenhouse was to my left, surrounded by bountiful flowering plants. Bees bumbled around them, moving from plant to plant. The flagstone patio turned into a walkway, going to the Greenhouse, and flowing past it. In the distance, beyond the Gree
