Rhett and I packed a bag of what we needed and left in the SUV. There wasn’t much point in waiting, and we still had plenty of daylight left. The car ride was awkward and silent, and Rhett’s knuckles were white from gripping the steering wheel. Is he mad at me or something? What else are we supposed to do? We can’t just sit around and do nothing. Rhett drove us down winding dirt roads while I gave instructions from a paper map. “Are we going the right way?” Rhett frowned while making a tight turn. The roads had gotten worse, and thrashed us around in our seats. “There should be a right turn coming up, then we’ll be at the spot we choose to park.” I said, inspecting the map. We had marked it earlier, before we left. Rhett grumbled under his breath as his head banged into the car’s ceiling
