The wind blew an early winter breeze. Over the past week, I’d grown used to her warmth. Without her nearby, I was chilled to the bone. The ground sucked the heat from my body, and I shivered. My thoughts raced as I tried to fall asleep. Memories I’d buried long ago popped into my head.
